Nothing is quite as acute though as the feeling when you're leaving school or 6th form, leaving what had up until then been a cocoon that you didn't even really realise existed.

I remember stopping on the school driveway. I turned around, looked at the school and said out loud "Thank feck for that".

Mine was a bit different. Got to the a week before due back at College. Still had 230 pages of Chemistry notes to write up. Turned up for an "open day/interview." Got offered a job. Never went back - well not until Uni a good few years later.

To be fair having spent 18 months of the 4 year course working in the real world, it does make you appreciate the university lifestyle more, I'm certainly going to miss it and wish I could do it all again! The 2:1 I need for my graduate position is pretty much nailed on, so not to concerned about my results and I can just enjoy myself until graduation (can you believe you have to hire the robes! You'd think with all the fee's paid they'd chuck that bit in for free!)

It was about 36 for my robes I think. No idea what the picture will cost. If it was up to me I probably wouldn't even go...but you know, mums and that...

Yeah, mine forced the official photo on me. My argument of 'dad has a camera' didn't seem to stand up. Not sure I'm looking forward to the day. Sitting in a place waiting for them to read out 350 names promises to be tedious as anything.

I graduated from school uniform on a Friday, to a new boiler-suit in Monday.

Got the boiler-suit from "Bowes,the shop with the man at the door" on Bridge Street.

I didn't even stop, Bruce, though my thoughts were similar. Shook the dust from my feet and immediately emigrated to Canada. I'd had quite enough. University was great though. I went there in 1963 and have been there ever since - now Emeritus I still have an office and do my research, while hobnobbing with the other old fogies over longish lunches.
