Re: Wimbledon thread
For a long time I'd resigned myself to never seeing a British winner at Wimbledon. All I can say is thanks Andy for making one of my sporting dreams come true.

Gah, he could have taken 5 sets to win, then i'd have got to see some of the match! But seriously, great stuff!

Re: Wimbledon thread
I was pretty nervous. Serving for the match and up 40-0 and he blew it (temporarily). I had the feeling that if he lost that game he might well have lost the match. I feel a great sense of relief.

Another British tradition bites the dust. What is the world coming to. Congratulations Andy on a well deserved victory.

Re: Wimbledon thread
Score didn't really tell the full story. Some fantastic rallies and classy tennis from both. Never really had the belief in Henman or Rusedski but this guy's the real deal. He's played and beaten all the best. To cap it off this way, tremendous.

I'm being told that the Beeb panned away just as Alex Salmond was attempting to unfurl a Saltire in the Royal Box, the wanker!

Having politicians being constantly shown on the screen is just stupid anyway.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm being told that the Beeb panned away just as Alex Salmond was attempting to unfurl a Saltire in the Royal Box, the wanker!
I have no idea whether they are tennis fans or not but the BBC don't need to show them.
Salmond is a prat who tried to politicise a superb sporting achievement.

Agreed absolutely. I do think that any current Prime Minister should be there, but if we know that in advance then why keep showing him/her?BWFC_Insane wrote:Having politicians being constantly shown on the screen is just stupid anyway.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm being told that the Beeb panned away just as Alex Salmond was attempting to unfurl a Saltire in the Royal Box, the wanker!

His attitude reminds me of the morons who keep banging on about our relationship with Europe.

Re: Wimbledon thread
I saw it tonight, so a re-edit gone on, obviously... Doesn't bother me, nothing wrong with Scots pride here, surely... Milliband there also... Cameron also in shot multiple times... Of the three I reckon Salmond is the most bearable...Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm being told that the Beeb panned away just as Alex Salmond was attempting to unfurl a Saltire in the Royal Box, the wanker!
I don't give a flying fart about tennis normally - but that final game was something else (this comes from an almost totally ignorant perspective - it may be low down in final great game lists for all I know, but i was totally gripped).
Re: Wimbledon thread
It was funny! He was on for about half a second unfurling it (which they somehow let him get in?!) and clearly some producer was going ape-shit, 'Get him off, noooooooo'.
I feel bad in a way for Salmond, in that he's spent his life chasing a false dream. He thinks people hate him because he's Scottish, rather than because he's a massive bell-end.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
