Now, be honest, did you recognise that it's a harmless grass snake, or did you shit your britches? :D

Oh, and what did you do with it?

Nah, loads of people my sorta height. Where I used to work there were 2 people in my office alone that were taller. GG - watch out. If he's doing the pint on head thing, next it'll be the whilst yer down there trick :P

I shall be making him/her into a small pie tomorrow!

(I wasn't 100% sure - but fairly sure - but didn't pick it up anyway - as I think grass snakes are well known for squirting people with a disgusting smelly arse-spray - much as skunks are supposed to do!)

I jumped a lot more the other week when a huge mouse jumped out of one of the bags I picked up!

I really didn't know that. It's not a surprise but I really didn't know that they do that. Anyway, where is our snake now? I hope he/she's back in your garden. I've taken out rats with a pitchfork before today and then been sick at the thought that as they were cowering they were only trying to keep their young alive. Cornered, looking up at me. I fecking hate myself at times for things that I've done.

Parade service this morning (where we are swamped by beavers/cubs/scouts rainbows/brownies/guides...

and they made a "surprise" presentation to me of a book of how to grow veg and fruit - and £50 to spend on plants...

anyway.. leafing through it just now, I have discovered that on just about every page there is a post-it note from one of the kids - often with a fruit/veg related goodbye message..

(most of the rainbows wrote "I lik appls" bye!)

anyway - made me smile! it is very sweet!

most puzzling note - on the citrus page:

knock knock
who's there?
lemon
lemon who?
because lemons know how to say bye! love chloe xx

I was cornered a rat outside our house, Bruce, though it was fifty years ago now. I was armed with a rake. It didn't sit there cowering though. Looked at me with reddish eyes and ran right at me. I swung the rake and couldn't have missed it by more than a couple of feet. It passed underneath me as I jumped and was last seen heading rapidly for the high ground, while I went for a quick pick me up. I guess the moral of the story is that a thrusting weapon such as a pitchfork is superior to a swinging rake on such occasions.

There was a rat sat on our lawn once, i threw something at it to make it move, it didnt budge, so i got closer and poked it with the handle of a rake...after about the third poke it looked up at me as if to say 'do you mind pal?', then it got to its feet and sauntered off like he was being subbed in the 91st minute and his team were winning.

I think the moral of this story is, rats aren't really afraid of people anymore, which is a bit worrying.
Also, rat, mouse, spider, fly, i cant bring myself to kill anything..but i'll give em a good poking :)
