And, at any rate, I do believe he gets his head brutally smashed in with an oar in that film!

I'm not sure, I think it's his face. Can't stand the guy. I don't even think he is that bad an actor, just whenever he comes on screen I want to punch him. The oar thing was nice, except, he is in the paper every sodding day, normally after knocking up some new bimbo waitress, so that glorious dramatic illusion is shattered, as you realise the tosser isn't actually dead. Rant. Over.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Why?Prufrock wrote:Yeah, but it does have Jude Law in it, and anything with Jude Law in it means you come out angry.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I like the film, partly because of the on-location stuff in Rome etc, so I'll be interested to hear how it works on stage.thebish wrote:I shall be off to the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch to watch The Talented Mr Ripley

Just a bit of jealousy then?Prufrock wrote:I'm not sure, I think it's his face. Can't stand the guy. I don't even think he is that bad an actor, just whenever he comes on screen I want to punch him. Nah it can't be that, because I don't hate everyone better looking than me, and with more bimbo waitress notches on their bedposts. That'd be a lot of people to hate. Anyway, you mean envious.BWFC_Insane wrote:Just a bit of jealousy then?Prufrock wrote:I'm not sure, I think it's his face. Can't stand the guy. I haven't seen the film - as for the on-location Rome stuff, the Queen's Theatre set designer IS very good! I'll report back!mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I like the film, partly because of the on-location stuff in Rome etc, so I'll be interested to hear how it works on stage.thebish wrote:I shall be off to the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch to watch The Talented Mr Ripley

It was interesting - set design was good - lead actors good - all of which sounds like "faint praise".... I think the company did as well as they could with the script - but you can't get away with the fact that it is a bit weird, and I'm still not sure I have much of an idea what it was about (expecially a much-repeated dream sequence where he describes a dream with three people on a sinking harbour and a cobra and some toast...)
having said that it did portray a sense of manace and threat - which is what the book was about (I think) - and lots (rather too much for my liking) of scenes where two blokes act in their pants - tight ones - evoking a vague undercurrent of homo-eroticism which is never really developed, only hinted at...
had a nice Magnum during the interval.

Watched this on Sunday with Mrs Enfield and Miss Enfield.superjohnmcginlay wrote:Avatar 3D thingy. Impressive. Messes with your eyes though.
No plot as such (apart from the message about greedy humans having destroyed their Mother Earth looking to rape a green planet of it's resources irrespective of the indiginous population's rights). Think Wall-E meets Pocahantas meets Dances with Wolves meets a Man called Horse.
Anyway, fantastic special effects.

I'm amused that every year I spot another actor who's just made it big. Last year Simon Pegg. This year James McAvoy and Jamie Bamber, who I can't believe I didn't spot up til now.BWFC_Insane wrote:Watched it earlier this year on Blu-ray.hisroyalgingerness wrote:It's time for my annual watch of Band of Brothers

Marc Warren too, that fella who looks like a young Malcolm McDowell - he turned up in that 'Wanted' last year as the repairman.

Lookin through the Pacific at their castlist of relative unknowns. Wonder who's gonna shoot up to stardom from that. 5, 6 years on our 3rd watch of the pacific we'll be saying "oh look, the guy who's playing Darth Vader's dad and the prequelquel is sat on the hill with burns"
Who is online
