Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

An art debate - should galleries permit photography?
My favourite blogger in favour: here and here.
And my favourite blogger against: here.

For what it's worth Spots, the reverse side of my sheets are smooth as you like. I prefer theLost Leopard Spot wrote:Ordered some Hot Pressed paper over tinternet - shall restart the project when it arrives.
rougher side (which isn't actually over-rough). For just drawings smooth paper is probably best I agree, but I'm quite happy with the stuff I use. Now enough of the Van Gogh stuff, get to work...

Re: The Great Art Debate
Since you can find almost any work of art known to man by simply typing it into Google Images, I'm not sure why people need to take pics in galleries these days anyway.

^ Was going to say exactly that, Tango. Plus also, trying to study a piece of work whilst flashes pop all around you must be incredibly annoying.

Re: The Great Art Debate
as a gut feeling - i am grumpy enough to say - no.
1. unless you are using some decent gear - the photographs will be rubbish - and there will already be a better picture on the internet that you can freely share with your mates if you need to.
2. it's distracting for those looking at the art - people with cameras very easily forget they are not the only person in the room.
3. it encourages a snap-and-move-on approach to life - militating against the very precious discipline of "stopping and staring"
there's a not entirely dissimilar debate about bird-watching... proper bird watchers just take bins or scopes - and are not interested in "capturing" an image of the bird they have seen - the enjoy the bird for its own sake and don't need a record for posterity to justify having gone to see it...

Yes, I have had a debate along these lines before, now I think about it... viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23782" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: The Great Art Debate
nice job tango - you don't half crank 'em out!!
can I make a gentle and respectful request - that we make a dedicated thread for members works of art - much like we did a photo thread?
this thread is supposed to be about a debate around art issues.
we have a few excellent artists on the forum - and it seems there is useful advice about technique and equipment to be shared - as has been usefully done here by Tango in response to LLS's questions.
I think such a members collection and discussion of technique - tips and tricks - would be useful resource to anyone taking up or reviving their painting hobby - and would be easier to find and follow in a dedicated thread...
just a thought...

I think that you've tried to squeeze too much onto your page by way of perspective there, Tango. Not being rude or owt, just that it looks very narrow and squeezed in.

Re: The Great Art Debate
All comments are welcome. I blew the pic up to copy and in doing so knocked it out of perspective a little, ie made it a little taller than it should be. (I did it by saving the pic as background then clicked on stretch. ) Pics of the Palais exterior are few and far between unfortunately.
