I watched the first one and have to agree. Big fight and on to the next place followed by big fight and on to the next place - repeat ad nauseam.William the White wrote:Lord of the Rings as a movie (x3) is, I suspect, incredibly tedious. I can't be certain because I only watched the first and it was shite of the most malodorous...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:No, nothing wrong with it.. just genuine mystery on my part.
Same goes for Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter et al.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Watched 'Kick-Ass' very good, would have enjoyed it more but for Mark Stone's horrendous American accent! its so bad i cant concentrate on the scene when he is in it! why not just cast a feckin American as the gang land boss, jesus its not like it hasnt been done before! infact why is he always the villain? he is about as scary as a Carebear!
Seriously, how many actors are there knocking about? from both sides of the pond - why the frig do they cast people in roles where they dont naturally talk like the character is supposed to!?!? drives me nuts. the Americans are not too bad at British accents to be fair but our effort at the American is cringe worthy. Mark Stone in this, Brendan Gleeson in 'Green Zone', Ray Winstone in 'The Departed', Colin Farrell in 'Crazy Heart' just a few off the top of my head that ive recently seen; but all these performances have genuinely spoilt great films for me!
Actually thinking about it, we do have a few, Christian Bale is good at it, Gary Oldman too - but generally its awful!
Actually again, not all the Yanks are that great, remember Don Cheadle in 'Oceans 11'!? hell fire.

not Dominic West or - to stretch a point - Aiden Gillen???General Mannerheim wrote:fair point, Idris Elba did anyway.William the White wrote:Brits in The Wire did a feckin good job!General Mannerheim wrote:Watched 'Kick-Ass' very good, would have enjoyed it more but for Mark Stone's horrendous American accent! its so bad i cant concentrate on the scene when he is in it! why not just cast a feckin American as the gang land boss, jesus its not like it hasnt been done before! infact why is he always the villain? he is about as scary as a Carebear!

Aiden Gillen counts in this I'd say. And you are right. Idris Elba and Dom West are so good, hearing them talk in their actual accents is weirdly disconcerting. It really doesn't sound right. They sound like American actors doing rubbish British accents, in the same way the real voices of David Threlfall and Philip Glenister sound very bizarre. I wouldn't say 'we' are better at accents or 'they' are better, depends on the actor. GM has named some good US ones, how about Dick van Dyke, and Johny Depp in from hell (truly awful, though a good performance nevertheless)?William the White wrote:not Dominic West or - to stretch a point - Aiden Gillen???General Mannerheim wrote:fair point, Idris Elba did anyway.William the White wrote:Brits in The Wire did a feckin good job!General Mannerheim wrote:Watched 'Kick-Ass' very good, would have enjoyed it more but for Mark Stone's horrendous American accent! its so bad i cant concentrate on the scene when he is in it! why not just cast a feckin American as the gang land boss, jesus its not like it hasnt been done before! infact why is he always the villain? he is about as scary as a Carebear!

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

absolutely, i never knew Aiden Gillen was Irish till just now, is accent was so perfect, but Domic Wests was a biiiiit dodgy id say, but i think they covered that by making his character part Irish?
ok, if your good at the accent you are worthy of a part, but there are still too many people getting roles when they obviously cant do the accent!
Suppose it also has something to do with how well known the actor is too, and if you already know their real accents well, its hard to accept them trying something different.
ill give you another Brit who is good at it, Jim Sturgess!
