It was actually a sort of head-shaking reply to LLS's post about his bad day....

Oh dear :( ; is that the sad one who didn't like the rain and had a squittier than usual bum? Mind you, calling her toffee was always going to lead to a sticky end...you'll need to chew over your naming convention and if you've got any Fudges, Candys, Mints, Bonbons, Taffys, Butterscotches, Caramels, Treackles, or Sweets rename them quick.

I suspect that scepticism on diversity training is well founded for the most part.

But not always.

I once wrote a press release, and the copy for a flyer, on a play whose central character was a wheelchair user - and. indeed, the play was about perceptions of disability (sounds tedious, but it was a lovely piece, aimed at a teen audience).

In the press release/flyer I'd described the central character as 'trapped in her wheelchair'. A week later, in a session on disability the trainer pointed out to me that wheelchairs liberated disabled people, they didn't trap them. She said 'I love my wheelchair, look at it, look what i can do in it...' taking it for a pretty abandoned spin around the room. She then went onto look at photos I'd selected for publicity material - all of which showed wheelchair users as vulnerable, being helped by other people, not independent, not winning olympic games etc.

That was a very uncomfortable but salutary diversity training morning.

I know it's awful, but take much comfort from considering the later years that you gave her and what you saved her from.

I always thought that Dilbert had to be written by somebody at our place. Seems it might be someone where LLS works.

One never realises just how much unused shite one hoards in the kitchen alone until one has to box it up. I've absolutely no idea as to why I have, among other things, four ramekins, a ceramic gravy boat, a flan dish........... :conf:

Tell me about it. The amount of crap I had to dispose of to fit our stuff into a 20ft container beggars belief. Problem is, Mrs AT is doing her best to make sure we'll need at least a 40ft container to get home!
