Bruce, so you know .... Bulmers have gone cidericious with fruit based versions of the famous apple alcohol.
Tesco just now had Pressed Red Grape, Crushed Red Berry & Lime and Black Cherry.
Be my guest.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Well, well, well. Passing through Rochdale - yes, that is correct, Rochdale, and I discovered a really good pub. Unbeliva-babble. Good fud, and lots of ales, some of which were outstanding, I was especially taken with the Ay Up by Dancingduck brewery.
Recommend. 8 out of 10 (I'm a hard bugger to please). The Baum, Toad Lane.

I met my daughter in Manchester after her work and my Spanish class and we spent an hour and as bit in Thomas's Chop House near Albert Square. We weren't eating, but a goodly range of beers led to me drinkling in halves - Flowers IPA, Holts Best Bitter, Moorhouses, and some very hoppy number whose name I can't remember.
All kept superbly.
She had lager and lime.

I blame the parents.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Ale
What I find surprisingly good at the bargain end is Tetley's Original in cans. Refreshing like lager but with a stronger taste to it. And at only £3.75 a 4-pack from the offie on Settle Street who can complain? Not a cheapskate like me that's for sure.
It's a bit like what the Aussies call bitter, VB, Tooheys etc.

Re: Ale
Picked up a couple of bottles each of Flying Scotsman and Wainwright's earlier from Home Bargains. That's me sorted for most of the night.

Re: Ale
I was lying flat on my back on a school field last night as the sun set. Me and a couple of others had attempted to drain half a barrel of Hartington Best, as otherwise it was just going to waste. Failed miserably, but I'm bright and cheerful this morning, unhungover, just a slight headache. That's old age for you

Do they serve ale on school playing fields in your area? Surely lying flat on your back under the barrel will not be an aid to swallowing the nectar?Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I was lying flat on my back on a school field last night as the sun set. I've had a couple by them: St Magnus, and some IPA... Orkney IPA? Shetland IPA??? can't remember. But very good.LeverEnd wrote:In Victoria and Albert Horwich. Highland brewery, Dark Munro. Very impressive. Smoky dark but not too heavy like some stout or porter can be.

Re: Ale
I went to relax by my newly completed water feature last night, all sweaty and satisfied, and discovered to my absolute horror that my beer cupboard was bare*.
So first thing this morning I've gone to stock up at my local newsagents and he's a bloody marvel - got 4x Leatherbritches Hairy Helmet, 4x Thornbridge Wild Swan, 4x Blue Monkey BG Sips, 4x Farmers Blonde, 4x Blue Monkey Marmoset, and 4x Thornbridge Kipling, all for £66.
*except for two rusting cans of lager and an out of date bottle of Crabbies. I poured the lager into the slug traps and donated the cider to the missus (LK would be proud of me).

Re: Ale
oh, and couldn't help myself... Just popped back to add 4x Thornbridge's new summer ale called Reverend & the (beer) Makers. Brewed by the lead guitarist! in association with Thornbridge, as opposed to in his shed.
