Some quiz help please, chaps.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/df7415a6-67da ... abdc0.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

None of the answers to 8 jumps out at me. Not sure about 11, 36 or 40?

11 is Bowie and Beyoncé ( ). Hers sold ludicrously quickly.

Thanks!

Can 40 possibly be Icarus?

36b is an inflatable mobile concert hall in Japan. Any suggestions for 36a?

I think it represents a 3D printer.

Can it possibly be that simple and is that a 2013 innovation?

It certainly came to the fore in 2013, albeit invented prior. Dunno. If it's specific to that shape, shown, then it's rather indistinct.

It's that and a certain answer for 40 that I am looking for now.

This the one I'm struggling with, if anyone can't be bothered with the link - it's a technological innovation that made its debut in 2013, but what is it?!

Just got up - surely Icarus was would not count since he was mythological. ,In any event the astronauts would have gone close to the sun. Assuming 'who' is a person or people, the astronaughts who went the furthest would probably be the Apollo 13 crew who went round the moon rather than stop in lunar-stationary orbit on the earth side.

Helios 2 is the spacecraft that has flown closest (perihelion) to the sun.

(if Bobo's conjecture is correct, there is no one person who's flown closest as all the Apollo flights were triple manned and the closest point to the sun occurs at injection into lunar orbit when all three are aboard the CSM.)

I'd be disappointed if the answer were Icarus too! Interesting call on Apollo 13 idea.

Apollo 13 still had to inject into lunar orbit in order to return to earth orbit. Apollo 8 flew furthest away from the moon (and therefore closest to the sun) as their orbit was not designed to enable a landing.
So therefore I still think Helios 2 is the answer.

Except it would have to be when earth was at perihelion and a new moon - no idea if those conditions prevailed.

Apollo 8 was at earth perihelion but not a full moon. Still was closest to the sun of all the Apollo missions though...

Apparently all Appollo landings were in first of last quarter so not nearer the sun
(see http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_close_has ... ?#slide=11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
The answer would be whoever went furthest out towards the sun when the earth was at perihelion.

Apollo 8 was in December at perihelion. But the answer is Helios 2.

But wasn't that unmanned? Should be what, not who. How about Brian Binnie?

It was manned (Anders, Bormann and Lovell if my memory serves me right). It was also at perihelion. Plus your logic is faulty, grasshopper, it needs also to be at NEW moon (not full), and it was. The answer, if people, would therefore be the crew of Apollo 8.
