Exciting news Sir Dujon*, Spotland has joined forces with the Principality of Hutt River and between us we have formed the Alternative Commonwealth of Small Nations.Dujon wrote:Hey, Spotty! Prince Leonard could probably offer you advice.

*with respect to my recent proclamation of independence, I formed a parliament consisting of me and my dog (with doggy in the speaker's chair). The first act of parliament was to enable a Bill of Royalty and I've elevated myself to the title of Grand Duke of Spotland (Leopard I). In my capacity of sovereign lord of Spotland I've decided to invest you as Sir Dujon, First Sea-Lord of Spotland...

I watched most of the live discussion. Was very entertaining or maybe that was because I had been starved of tv?
Anyway Salmond in my opinion came off worse mainly due to the currency question but the pensions questions pit him under pressure.
However what was noticeable is that his rounds of applause were the loudest and anything about London was met with derision.

Clap-a-crowd is why I rarely watch live political debate. Stopped watching question time 10+ years ago for that reason.jaffka wrote:I watched most of the live discussion. Was very entertaining or maybe that was because I had been starved of tv?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If you're trying to write like a Scotch-man should it not be 'poot'?jaffka wrote:I watched most of the live discussion. Was very entertaining or maybe that was because I had been starved of tv?

In the footsteps of Pitt I shall begin the reconstruction of my fleet forthwith. Thank you, Your Grandee. I have to hand my material - compressed wood in A4 size - from which will be constructed a fleet which will put Leonard to shame (never trust an ally!). Nevertheless we will need a testing ground. Would you have available a relatively calm stream or brook, preferably with a bridge, available for such a purpose?Lost Leopard Spot wrote: Exciting news Sir Dujon*, Spotland has joined forces with the Principality of Hutt River and between us we have formed the Alternative Commonwealth of Small Nations.

Indeed so. My mother-in-law (or Chief Dragon of Spotland to give her her full title) resides not more than 500 yards from the original bridge where poo sticks was invented. I was thinking of annexing the bridge as an exclave of Spotland, now I shall do so, My Lord.Dujon wrote:In the footsteps of Pitt I shall begin the reconstruction of my fleet forthwith. Well, if they get independence, I, for one, want England to have a share of the baby... It's as much our panda as it is the Scots! It should spend quality time at Whipsnade!BBC News wrote:Edinburgh Zoo panda Tian Tian 'believed pregnant'

Re: You take the high road...
The Queen is in Glasgow and she bumped into Alex Salmond.
HMtQ: How nice to see you Mr Salmond.
AS: Nice to see you Ma’am. Now, what are we going to call Scotland when we win Independence? How about calling it a Kingdom, and then I’ll be a King?
HMtQ: No, we don’t like that.
AS: Empire, and I'll be Emperor?
HMtQ: No.
AS: Alright, so how about calling it a Principality, and then I’ll be a Prince?
HMtQ: No Mr Salmond, I suggest we call it a Country and you can carry on as you are.

Most of my Scots friends and relatives have lost the will to live with the debate already. Dragging it out further is playing nicely into the no campaign's hands.

I haven't been following this to any degree, Bijou Bob, but would that be because the 'yes' brigade are being shown up as empty barrels?

salmond really wanted a debate with cameron - but cameron (wisely) refused. salmond wanted a TV appearance for oratory and patriotic zeal whilst slagging the man from westminster...
however - what actually happened is that he was faced with Alasdair Darling - a scot like himself - and a debate that asked him questions about detail and expected answers that he clearly didn't have - and he floundered in front of a huge audience - so - yes - empty barrel! - pretty perfect description!

You can also add accusations from the yes campaign that the no campaign are negative and promoting a campaign of fear. At the same time the yes campaign are telling everyone that voting no means being ruled by the nasty English Tories, who will tax you more and take stuff away from you.
In other words, our words of negativity and fear are ok, but not theirs

It's just not going to happen is it? I wonder if we could get rid of the bloody Welsh instead?
