Re: The athletics/running thread
Attempted that thing Gary did a few week back again - the 4x400m with core exercises in between, times two. Did the first half and then my body gave up on me. Not too annoyed as I've been fairly hectic this week, but still, never like leaving a job half done. Still, four days of proper recovery should help me (especially seeing as I've agreed to go to rugby training on weds
)
As for now, I'm powering my way through some Soreen. Used to live off that at uni. <3 soreen.

Nutella?! That's bloody treasonous behaviour that!
Though I think I've found another treat for afternoons: 2 sultana and raisin bagels from Sainsbury's. 90p for the pair. Yum.
Rugby tonight. I haven't played in about nine years. Should be a laugh.

Got back yesterday from my Ireland trip.
The Ballyliffin Coastal Challenge was certainly that.
Very hilly, very challenging and very rewarding.
I can't post pictures from facebook but, trust me, it was bloody hard.
Nice gentle 7 miles tonight in preparation for my half marathon on Sunday.

Really good fun. It was only an hour, but we didn't stop moving the whole time - certainly felt it this morning.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:How was it?mrkint wrote:Nutella?! That's bloody treasonous behaviour that!

It was an open session, so there were people of all sorts of abilities there. I was pretty nervous about that at the start, but what I liked is that it was no one got fed up about someone (ie me) being shit. It was all about encouraging each other and intensity, which was great. Though I was slightly surprised that I was one of the tallest people there.
In summary, it was great as a novice to run around and get a feel for it again, though dunno how it would be for someone with more experience. Though it was all about fun and some little drills, and i guess in pre-season the people will separate into their respective teams as they see fit.
Tis the end of the season, apparently, so that was bad timing. But the guy who runs it says pre-season should be starting soon enough, as soon as they've finished redeveloping the ground and the stands (wtf).
Still fancy a run around? They usually train in Thornton Heath, which I gather isn't quite as much on your doorstep as the CP National Sports Centre

Sounds good. Let me know when they're starting pre-season and I'd definitely be keen.mrkint wrote:Really good fun. Thornton Heath is not too far away, but it is a shame they're not based in CP Park!

ok, so with al the exercise im doing, im finding that my skin is having a nightmare. the only way i can describe it is that it looks like there are lots of really little cuts on my thighs? either way it makes having a bath absolute agony. the skin is also quite red in that area. is this jsut a reaction to the cold?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ran 2 miles after training the teenagers tonight. I am so unfit at the mo, its depressing. Really need to get my act together and book a park run to aim for to give me some motivation. 2 miles and I was knackered. Rubbish.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm hoping, after a really frustrating 18 months football-wise, that about two and a half hours game time in three days will have had a real benefit next time I go out. I'm stuck at about 23 mins for a 5k and don't really know what is an achievable target at the moment. Any of you more hardcore runners got any ideas?

ok - (though you have been going to book a park run since AT LEAST the time I did them - which was ages ago!) - the bit in bold....Gooner Girl wrote:Park runs didn't exist 5 years agothebish wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Ran 2 miles after training the teenagers tonight. I'm still hobbling from my Nicky Huntesque efforts on Monday.Prufrock wrote:I'm hoping, after a really frustrating 18 months football-wise, that about two and a half hours game time in three days will have had a real benefit next time I go out. 5k - on a flat course and at an ordinary temperature, under 20 minutes should be the target. Obviously you've got 22 & 21 as milestones before you get to that.
