Don't believe that rag. Wait till it's in the Mail.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Its true though, how can it be?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Shame he is fab. A bit Peter Kay like though in he is both sick of it, and good at doing variants on the same joke. I still laugh whenever anyone mentions tog ratings for duvets!

It's fascinating in a morbid way. If I were to shuttle off tomorrow, someone would find a load of clippings from The Week in a folder. There is a section every week on celebrities' favourite books, but it overlaps with the property but on the reverse page. Looks like I have a fascination with Tudor conversions!mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I really don't think he had any fascist sympathies - he was a nerdy obsessive about whatever he was looking at and I know there are similar cutting elsewhere on other topics... these were just particularly amusing.Prufrock wrote:Ha! I could buy half of Scotland for that then park for free.A rare opportunity to acquire a Grade II Listed building for conversion to a private house on Park Lane. Last occupied as an office, planning and change of use has been obtained for this building of approximately 4,965 sq ft.A parking space is available on the private forecourt on a separate 3 year licence at a cost of £6,500 per annum. The parking space is outside of the congestion charging zone.Tenure: A new FRI (Full Repairing & Insuring) lease for an effective term of 125 years for no rent, but excluding any rights under leasehold reform legislation. When you're paying £10m for the house, the parking charge counts in the postage and packing.Hoboh wrote:London! it's crazy!!!

I went to a meeting in that there Laaaaarnden last week. Leyton is a proper sh1th0le, but whilst there i got talking to a pharma rep who had what she described as a one and a half bed flat there. 200 grand if anyone fancies it. Her mum bought a 2 bed semi 25 years ago, but sadly died in January. The house alone has taken her into inheritance tax territory. Beyond me why anyone wants to live there for any length of time.

They rent at anything from £75 to £120 a month in Manchester so owning one here is worth a good few grand. It's just scaled up!A parking space in central London has gone on sale for £300,000.
The open-air space in Hyde Park Gardens is being sold by Kay and Co at £500 more than a nearby studio flat sold for last week.
The parking space has already attracted a number of enquiries and comes with a 91-year lease.
Matthew Abernethy at Kay and Co said: "Parking in this part of prime central London is scarce and there are not enough spaces for all the residents."
He added that last year the company sold two parking spaces for £250,000 each.

If I had to live down there I figure this would do nicely, central London 46 miles, brisk walk

But if you have a job and know what to do in your spare time anyhow, then you really wouldn't, surely?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Because there are lots of job opportunities and lots of things to do with your spare time?Bijou Bob wrote:Beyond me why anyone wants to live there for any length of time.

I really miss it sometimes, but I think I'd rather be in a position where I visit London for the weekend rather than coming up North for the weekend.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:It's true that it's not for everyone.Worthy4England wrote:But if you have a job and know what to do in your spare time anyhow, then you really wouldn't, surely?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Because there are lots of job opportunities and lots of things to do with your spare time?Bijou Bob wrote:Beyond me why anyone wants to live there for any length of time.

Re: General Chit Chat
Personally, I wish I'd done a few years down there before marriage and kids. The idea of bringing a family up in the capital though would be a complete no go. Years ago i was offered a senior post on double my then money on a nod and a wink if I'd move down there. The decision took about 4 seconds. Detached house, kids in a great school, countryside on the doorstep, low crime rates or a tiny house in a crap area where kids in the local school speak English as a second language? No brainer.

Re: General Chit Chat
I've lived here for 24 years and am still finding new things to do.
London seems to change and evolve at a faster rate than the rest of the country.
Yes it's more expensive to buy property but the rest is affordable if you don't eat and drink in the West End
Free access to some of the world's best museums and art galleries, cheap theatre, 2,000 years of history within 10 square miles. Free access to the many parks and gardens dotted about (London is one of the greenest cities in the world in terms of acreage)
And as Mummy says the job opportunities are far better.
I love it.

London's a great place to live - if you live in a nice bit and have a decent job - so is the south west - so is the north west...

It's an interesting one - I'm retrospectively very envious about what kids who grew up around London had access to that I didn't.Bijou Bob wrote:The idea of bringing a family up in the capital though would be a complete no go.

I think museums in London should be pay to get in. We'd knock a fortune off the debt.

London is good because it has lots of job opportunities and lots of things to do with your spare time?
Yeah well, so's fecking Iraq. And it doesn't cost you a quarter of a mil just to park your car there either.

Re: General Chit Chat
Granted the job opportunities are better, but the people I know who work down there have little or no work/life balance and shed loads of stress. Horses for courses, I've lost the ambition of my younger years.
Interestingly, I once spoke to a Labour mp who had privately educated their kids in London. When I smiled and asked if they didn't trust state education, they looked incredulous and said, without irony " in London? You're fecking joking"
