am loving my rubber! natty cut-off version!Gary the Enfield wrote:I don't like swimming either. Mainly because it bores me. However next week and every Tuesday from now to October I have been given the opportunity to swim at the Olympic venue for the canoeing and kayaking. Not in the rapids you understand but in the warm up pool. It will prepare me for the Olympic distance triathlon I'm going to try later this year. Plus I get to dress in rubber.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Soul destroying night on the running front again. Coached the kids high jump then did a little myself then went on a run. Not quite 2 miles and it was slow and such hard work. I was knackered. I know I need to get out in the week more and that once every Tuesday isn't enough to see an improvement but its really hard to motivate yourself when it is such hard work. Was only 18 months or so ago I could run 4/5 miles with ease (not fast, but I could run it) Depressing.

It always amuses me the way you lurk on here... So tell me Colin, what exercise do you do exactly?Annoyed Grunt wrote:Old age creeping up on youGooner Girl wrote:Soul destroying night on the running front again. 12 days to the marathon and I managed 2 miles this morning. Had me calves physio'd to begorrah but cant seem to shake off problems. Trying orthotics in a rather desperate attempt to make the start line but I couldn't have had worse preparation.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ahh cheers. I'll certainly do the odd marathon in the future but only those I dont have to pay for umpteen months in advance. To be honest, if we hadn't booked a hotel and didn't have family coming up to watch I'd have probably withdrawn already. Still you never know, not given up yetGooner Girl wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:12 days to the marathon and I managed 2 miles this morning. GtE mentioned you had to pull out the park run Saturday so I knew things were looking dodgy. Fingers crossed. You've not had much luck with marathons recently have you? Hope you make it.

Have you tried running backwards?

Seriously though, take it easy.

Take up track and field! I'll teach you to triple jump.Harry Genshaw wrote:Gary the Enfield wrote: Have you tried running backwards?![]()
or perhaps just not running at all! Went out this morning and same problem after 4 miles. Contemplating a proper rest from running, perhaps get out on the bike now the nicer weathers here

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The athletics/running thread
2.5 miles tonight run - and easier then yesterdays. AND I had walked the dog for an hour just beforehand. I think all that deserves an Ice-cream.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Based on reccoes from on here (cheers guys), I adapted a run I'd been doing 'intervals' on to make it more pronounced. 80m uphill sprint, 250m slow jog uphill, 80m sprint uphill, 300m slow jog downhill, 110m sprint downhill, 150m slow jog on flat X 4. 'Bout half a mile each way at a decent pace to warm up and cool down. Thighs feel like jelly, but this is good no? Concentrated on my breathing and I felt really good, never out of breath other than at the end of the last sprint, and felt in control rather than short sharp breaths. Just in time for the end of the football season. Great.
