Where are you going tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Well, tonight's the night for I which bought Roger Hodgson tickets at the Bridgewater Hall. Playing, effectively, his Supertramp back catalogue. Really looking forward to this one.

However the Clowns mother has been scootered into hospital again, so things are a little complicated. We'll need to see what's possible.

Doesn't visiting time finish at 8:00pm? You'll still catch most of the gig. My friend writes for 'Fireworks' Rock Magazine (I know) and he met Roger Hodgson last week and interviewed him. You won't regret going if you manage to get there. Good luck.

Tonight I am going to Wembley Arena to watch Journey Whitesnake and Thunder. Heard good and bad reviews of this tour which mainly seem to centre on the sound. Let's hope it's okay tonight as Wembley can sound like a cowshed sometimes.

Thanks .... I don't want to make the health of the matriarch impose on people's days, so won't post lots of bulletins. She had a fall at just about the moment Bolton drew with Blackpool. I was having an orange sherbet at the time and I got the call as I drove home.

Assuming she's OK I will go. Not seen Supertramp since 1978 !!!

Never been to the Bridgewater before, either ... & have been planning on a meal around Deansgate, before or after. We'll see.

I managed to get to the gig .... I'd been advised to let my hair down which, if you've ever met me you would appreciate is also tall order.

Firstly I never fail to think that Manchester really is a great city centre. If it wasn't for the football clubs I could really like the place. The Bridgewater is a great venue as well and the whole organisation is "sorted" to use the vernacular.

The performance was simply superb. More or less a Supertramp gig with maybe four or five of his solo works, but each fitted the known style. A very tight band with, in particular a multi-instrumentalist of great ability. The sax has always been vital to the Supertramp sound and this guy was very good. A decent amount of talk and explanation without getting dull.

They were on stage for 2hrs 15min all told and it flew by. Excellent evening and much needed.

One oddity stuck me ... partially relevant given other discussions ... the audience, clearly largely middle aged and, the men at least, less hair and more middle than once upon a time, was 100% white. Literally every single person.

I'm glad you made the gig. I mentioned before my friend saw him last week and was very impressed.

I was also at a concert last night to see Thunder, Whitesnake and Journey at Wembley. After wandering through the pre-match crowds on Empire Way I met the Mrs and young Miss GtE inside the Arena and the concert began at 6:45.

Danny Bowes was on top form and Thunder should really think about a headline tour next year. Just superb.

Whitesnake came next and I'm sad to say were appalling. Coverdale's voice is shot and he clearly still believes he's at the top of his game. In a (just over) 1 hour set he went off stage 3 times to change his shirt and to accommodate his young guitarists need to play an irritatingly long guitar solo. Then the legendary Tommy Aldridge did a drum solo (which was actually pretty impressive but had no place in such a short set)

Journey were good and Arnel Pineda (their Manillan singer) really has extended the career of this band beyond it's natural cycle. My friend thought his pronunciation was lazy and I've certainly heard him sharper but he is spot on with his pitch and he still looks like he can't believe he got the gig. For those who don't know he was basically spotted on You Tube as a frontman in a Journey covers band. Neil Schon flew to Manilla to audition him and hired him on the spot!

All in all a good concert but, Mr Coverdale? I'm sad to say, it's time to go. We wish you well.

Second concert of the week tomorrow.

Birthday present for Miss GtE is Green Day at The Emirates. Only just found out that they are supported by the Kaiser Chiefs and All Time Low

Miss GtE is very excited.

I'm looking forward to beer. All I had on Wednesday night was water and fizzy cola bottles. Rock and Roll. :oyea:

I saw them there in '05. My first gig was The Hives a year or two before that. I thought that stuff was the shit when I was 14/15.

I remember at the Green Day gig Billie Joel saying something like 'let's hear it for george buush' and then a chorus of teenagers just going boooooooooooooooooooo

Haha, I just remember being part of a sub-culture at that time thinking what you liked was amazing and everything else was shit and anyone who liked that stuff was an idiot. I think System of a Down were my favourite band at that stage, never saw them live though. I may listen to toxicity later and see if it still has the same impact. Oh, and thinking you were cool for going crowd surfing! (I got dropped at a Lost Prophets gig, didn't even really like them, but was given a free ticket).

Erm, crowd surfing IS cool. I'm 46 and will still enter the mosh pit for certain bands.

Not tonight, but this afternoon - sunny, me, partner and youngest daughter all home - went to Blackpool for the first time, we think, in ten years...

We had a great time! Did pier hopping from north to South, Waltzers and daft slot machines and, really, admired what Blackpool was doing on the prom to make it an attractive place to spend a few hours (though, in truth, there's no way of shutting out the £1.99 for fish n chips places, nor what look like grim pubs with two meals for a tenner including a pint, nor the sweet smell of old oil cooking up everything from chips to doughnuts to burgers).

Beach looked great though - are they still pouring sewage into the sea, anyone know?

And the trams are all streamlined and don't have wooden seats...

Finished up at Harry Ramsdens which was good, and had pinot grigio to go with excellent fish n chips...

Did it on the train - nice to avoid the Friday motorways...

On the (pretty crowded) train on the way back there was a family with three kids under five - the parents looked about 18 themselves... Kids at end of day, playing up, the oldest (about 4) clearly jealous of the other two was being kind of aggressive. They were well looked after and clearly loved, but when the oldest finally got on the dad's nerve definitively, he said - 'Right, that's it, when I get home I'm feeding you to the snake...'

I've been chuckling since...
