I like this one...
9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn’t open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren’t available for breakfast… The frustrated gunman walked away.
We were talking about these in the pub last night. My favourite is this:

"A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer… $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]"

I'm not sure how they qualify for Darwin Awards though :conf:?

Indeed - the traditional point of the Darwin Awards was that recipients had died committing an act of incredible stupidity, thus improving the human gene pool... I'm sad to see the awards loosening the rules in this way... there's probably some survival of the shittest reason behind it...

Hey! First time ever I've been off on crimbo eve I'll have you know.
I'd rather be in, it's usually an easy half day sat around chatting, drinking coffee and eating mince pies. But the scrooge-like slave drivers over at engineering-central HQ forcibly lock the office up and steal a day off our holiday entitlement for the privilege. The bastards.

indeed bish, wrangling databases indeed - somebody's gotta keep Britain safe whilst the rest of the population flies off to Teneriffe.

Yes, Hoss I'm in with two of my staff who have reasonable expectations of sitting around munching mince pies before quietly buggering off about 12ish. What they don't know is that the capo di tutti capi from London is up today having a little chat with our regional capo, and he's a stickler for people working through to the bitter end. I haven't broken it to them yet, and they're not going to be impressed when I finally inform them and also in passing (being forewarned that the boss of bosses would be here) let them know I booked this afternoon off...

You another bod keeping Britain safe Boris?

I'm sat at my desk at home about to start a couple hours work. Last Thursday and Friday my work went astronomic (in 48hrs I got a months work through via email!) with solicitors clearing their desks onto mine so they could have a few days off at my expense and I am already this morning being mythered for updates. Thats not going to happen. I am not passing on that myther to people sat at home enjoying the festivities. It will all wait. But first, a couple hours work.

Working from home here too, pretty relaxed scene - few c/calls, emails going on.

It's ok, you can relax - all the big cheeses have disappeared, probably for a piss up power lunch, so I've told my minions they can go home in fifteen minutes. You too Harry, just go home! :D

I'll tell them in the disciplinary hearing in the new year that "Spotty said it was ok to go"

We've been told 2pm is the official finish time. That's 1.45 then ish. Boss has brought his guitar in and is currently doing a sing song. Two of my Christian colleagues then decided it was a good idea to start on hymns and carols. neither can sing. 1.45 can't come soon enough.........

Reading last night that someone did a study based on scuba divers kneeling down in shark-infested waters (non-threatening) and that the sharks would swim behind the human 80% of the time. Potentially suggesting that they aren't using direction of travel as the reason for their sneaky from behind approaches, but actually know us as a species and which way is best to stalk us.

alright.
