Quite a bit of good news and a tad bit of bad news so I thought I would sum it all up in this thread. I have started my new role on a part time basis(which will become full time when I finish my course) despite what some of you said I am being actively encouraged to take my holiday as individual days rather than in week long blocks, so much so the business offer a scheme whereby holiday can be taken in half days. The office is football mad infact most of the office is male and many of them support football teams and take half days holiday to watch midweekers, fans include the obvious suspects of Arsenal Chelsea, Spurs, strangely though there is not a single Reading fan but there are several Aldershot fans who refer to Reading as "b*stards" and "the scum" which of course brings delight to me given I have been surrounded by Reading fans at school for the last 11 years. As for the work itself, I have been inputting invoices and credit notes on SAGE.

As for exams results I passed an exam today but found out yesterday that I failed an exam I took some weeks back, this is very annoying as I am unlikely to have the opportunity to retake it unless I ask for a couple of hours of work to do as such. So if I don't get the time of work then I won't be able to complete the course meaning my efforts since January have been wasted. None the less I have still got a job so I am delighted.

Daniel,

You're willing to take time off work to watch football, but not to resit an exam you need to pass to pass your course?

Just no.

Well I will ask, I could alternatively use half a days holiday which is what I think your suggesting. I might as well even if it does cost £40 to resit and use half of a days holiday.

I have done loads of studying MW, I do a minimum of 30 hours revision outside of lessons for every single exam I take, Getting up at 4 in the morning every day to do as such, getting into college an hour early to do more work, doing more revision when I get home from college and for 10 of the exams I have taken so far that has worked for 1 it didn't. I am also the only person in the two classes on the course(equating to 40 people) who has 100% attendance, I am the only one of the 40 who has never been later as well. I will retake the exam but I am no more likely to pass given that I will be working 40 hours a week, meaning I will have less time to study. Fact is I am punching well above my weight with people who a more intelligent than me, who for the most part have less responsibilities than me, nearly all of whom are older than me, nearly all of whom have an easier home life than me, nearly the whole class are Uni drop outs who were been bank rolled by their parents and are now being bankrolled to take this course, most of them will have a long summer of doing f**k all because their parents will let them stay at home, at worse some of them might have to get part time jobs. It is things like the above that really piss me off about living down here, the way people take for granted what they have got and the way that so many intelligent young people just stroll through life expecting everything to come to them on a plate. I guess you could say I am fighting above my weight(as I have been my whole time in education), bit like the Bolton of old really. Thank you for the advice about revising MW but I am just making you aware that I already do loads of that anyhow, hard work doesn't always pay off but I blood hope it does the 2nd time I take this exam in July. Anyhow I have another one the week after next to concentrate on first.

Dan, a bee seems to have found its way into your bonnet. Unless your so-called rich fellow students have daddies who are actively corrupting the system then they still have to pass the same examinations as you. You have a job of sorts but others might well have to find part time jobs to continue? Who's worse off? Get your brain into gear, Dan, and concentrate on your own performance and not that of others. You have failed an examination; that's your fault and no one else's. Have you been advised as to how or where you went wrong? If not, have you enquired?

I didn't mean to touch a nerve, Dan - it was just you said rather casually that you'd take a half day holiday for the exam and I was just saying it would take more than that to succeed. It is important to know why you failed and the instructor should tell you that. Go through you failed exam to understand where it went wrong. Was it a failure to understand the subject matter or simple carelessness under exam stress? It is also important to study even harder since you have trouble with that particular subject. You are so close to your qualifications it is important to stay the distance.

I agree it is my fault I failed, it is just annoying that I completed every resource available to me, even asking for more pass papers etc while other did bugger all as usual and passed. I did enquire as to how I did in the exam and I failed by 3 marks, had I not made careless mistakes I would have passed. It was a spreadsheets exam BTW.

A fine victory by Castleford there against current holders, Wigan, at Wigan, in the QF of the Challenge Cup. 16 - 4 in a very good game indeed.

Somewhat American I fear. It just came on the news this morning. The RCMP are the police for those provinces which don't have provincial police (basically all but Ontario and Quebec) although I expect Moncton might have a municipal force. We don't know much. He was home-schooled by his parents, disliked authority and had recently lost his job for attitude problems. There are a lot of woods round that area. He might be hard to find if he had planned it well.
Following a tip, police surrounded him in a wooded area and he simply surrendered. Mercifully no over-reaction from the police.

Read this and wondered what your views are? Do they have a point, or should it be let sleeping dogs lie? Personally, since so many years have passed I'd think the latter. Views?

It's part of Bristol's history - and so should be accepted and marked appropriately...

'Massive Attack, probably the biggest and most successful band ever to come from around these parts'. Bollocks. That particular mantle is held by The Wurzels, and they sing about spreading cow shit, for feck's sake.

I notice that despite us having repeatedly apologised for our role in something that was socially acceptable 250 years ago, we are stll being heavily criticised for it. I'm still waiting for an apology from the Italian PM for their role in conquering and enslaving the country around 1200AD.
That's before I start on the Belgians. And the Danes.

I note also that the countries we 'enslaved' on other continents (By enslaved, I mean built roads, railways, cities and infratsructure like sewerage systems, schools and hospitals etc) are rather happy to continue to take millions off us in aid, despite wanting independence. Funny that.

I think what the Massive Attack guy says makes total sense. I'm not convinced by 'historic' apologies but he's on about recognising what happened.
