As long as it passes an mot! A week ago someone went into the side of me and it's been declared a write off because the B pillar is slightly bent. Are there any mechanics/body shop bods on here pls that can shed any light on how easy it would be to make the car road worthy?

Re: General Chit Chat
The problem, 89, is that if the B-pillar is bent/warped there is a good chance that so are the roof and pan. On today's cars these are structural parts of the vehicle (unlike a bent mudguard or boot lid.) In turn, such damage means that the whole car is 'twisted' out of alignment with parts of the structure being stretched and others compressed. Depending on the severity of the damage the repair costs could vary from an awful lot to mind boggling.
Have a chat to the people who assessed the damage about the chance of resurrection. I suspect though that, even if they have the facilities to do such a repair, it will be an exercise in financial futility. I hope that it isn't but . . .

Not to mention that when things are bent/twisted and then 'fixed', they're rarely as strong a they were previously. Your safety comes first, so I recommend taking the insurance money and getting something else.Dujon wrote:The problem, 89, is that if the B-pillar is bent/warped there is a good chance that so are the roof and pan. Agreed, the cost to sort it correctly could exceed the value of the car if done correctly and don't forget the insurance value of the car will fall below the 'market' price of it.Dujon wrote:The problem, 89, is that if the B-pillar is bent/warped there is a good chance that so are the roof and pan. The first time I bought a motorbike helmet, the salesman asked "So Bob, is your head worth fifty quid or five hundred quid". In the same vein 89, what's your life and that of your loved ones worth? Take the money and run, in my experience you'll never trust the car again and if its been bent, its already lost some of its structural integrity.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Grrr, damn you all and your sensible suggestions! You're all telling me what I already know deep down, I came on here for someone to tell me what I want to hear!
Mr 89 is learning how to vinyl wrap cars so we may buy it back for him to practice on but after reading what it takes to pass an MOT, I think it's a goner.

There's no way on earth I'd be slapping someone with a drinks can who was brandishing a gun in my face, sneaking up behind the b*stard and delivering a mighty blow over the bonce with a tyre iron'd be much more my style.

No such thing as?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

There's one (BS*) left, I think. But, a bit like your "West Ham didn't exist then" thing, this is completely unvalidated.Lord Kangana wrote:No such thing as?
And No, it is a real person... I think.
EDIT: post written research reveals there are actually 44 Building Societies left in this country.

Great sales line, but to be fair, at the time he was right as helmets were classified by construction type (and therefore strength and protection) into Type A, Type B and Type A ACU Gold standard. The answer was in fact £399 for an Arai which is nowhere near as comfy as my AGV. Or as quiet.thebish wrote:Bijou Bob wrote:The first time I bought a motorbike helmet, the salesman asked "So Bob, is your head worth fifty quid or five hundred quid".
