Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
As it happens, whilst I was briefly on site yesterday, the team upstairs had invited us to a 'Jacobs Join' lunch on the lawn in front of the building. We had an urgent e mail from some bloke on upwards of fifty grand to tell us the lunch was cancelled. As an organised event, it needed a full elf and safety risk assessment. The elf bloke was off on leave but had advised that taking food outside would constitute an unacceptable hazard, so wouldn't pass anyway.

Really?
In my book that would have constituted a challenge and we'd have done it anyway (whatever a Jacobs join is in the first place). Cannot be doing with that shit.

I occasionally get asked to work in Local Govt., or the NHS & I know I'd last about 3 days.(though, wtf is a Jacob's Lunch ? Sounds crackers to me !)
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

jacob's join - everyone brings stuff and you you all tuck in... I suspect it links to the story of Jacob and the sheep and his uncle Laban - meaning that you get all the odds and sods...
i thought everyobne in the north knew this! shame on you!
(yer posh-types refer to it as a "bring and share" lunch or summat like that...)

Indeed. You've inspired me, I'm about to launch a flurry of emails inviting all my colleagues to an outdoor jamboree tomorrow aft (organised) - I might even mention that I've asked one of our recently joined colleagues to give a swift demo of some of the aspects of her favourite pastime as an aperitif. I shall make sure to cc the Grande fromages in it to see if any respond...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Really?

Jacob's join? Yep. A well know phrase to anyone brought up in a Methodist environment. Maybe not so for those strange Catholist types.bobo the clown wrote:Ah.
