Re: Checkmate...
I did go down a piece having my Queen, rooks and a bishop forked six ways to Sunday (I hate knights). However, a desperation move may have equalized in material. I think it was Horace who said "Homer sometimes nods" and it may be that Kinty for once did not take the killer line. However, as we approach endgame, his pawns look better than mine.Montreal Wanderer wrote:I think I'm about to go down a piece....Jakerbeef wrote:A Queen exchange with MrKint. Re: Checkmate...
if my game with kinty is anything to go by - he plays a cautious endgame. he is streets-ahead a better player than me - but i can't help thinking he could really have finished me off about 10 moves ago... or maybe he's just toying with me!Montreal Wanderer wrote:I did go down a piece having my Queen, rooks and a bishop forked six ways to Sunday (I hate knights). .....and Resign. Cheers Bish, well played. I thought I had you, especially when you opened up that file, but I just couldn't get past the bloody knight blockage. I reckon that pawn deserves a VC too for courage above and beyond the call of duty.

Re: Checkmate...
The trouble with the endgame is that kinty has studied it and considers it now one of the stronger elements of his play, while I have no clue as to what to do. We each have two rooks and seven pawns, but his rooks are attacking while mine have to defend. I'm trying to limit their movement but if I lose a pawn....

Re: Checkmate...
Actually I think kinty could win whether he was white or black in our game - right now my goal is to get to 30 moves and beat Spotty's record.... Of course, the other two game going on may have already eclipsed that. We move slowly because of time zones. I have no plan...

Re: Checkmate...
Just out of curiosity, Spotty, how does G6-E6 work? You may not lose a piece. If he exchanges Queens you take with the bishop. If he takes with the knight you get the Q for free. If he takes with the Queen (best)you exchange and then advance your rook to d5 and gain a pawn at least, possibly getting a passed pawn.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Feckin right he doesMontreal Wanderer wrote:Spotty may hate knights too.thebish wrote:A4xC6 D7xC6

Re: Checkmate...
Sorry got called into a meeting...
I think I panicked, maybe. I'll have to look at it tonight.
BIsh. You know that withdraw one move for free, can I use it on the resignation? (sorry to piss about).

Re: Checkmate...
Haven't got a board in front of me, but, if I can offer something better or as good or, even, slightly inferior, then I'll do that instead of Monty's suggestion...thebish wrote:Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Sorry got called into a meeting...

no - you can have monty's suggestion - it contains within it a lurking fatal flaw!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Haven't got a board in front of me, but, if I can offer something better or as good or, even, slightly inferior, then I'll do that instead of Monty's suggestion...thebish wrote:Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Sorry got called into a meeting...

Re: Checkmate...
I've just resigned the kinty game - most of it was spent with me running away - he is a far superior player to me!!! anyway - I made him wait 54 moves!

Re: Checkmate...
Hasta la vista bishbaby.
(PS If I'da known that the number of moves would be statistically significant in overcoming the kinty effect, I might not have resigned. But I've got RCD: Resignatory Compulsion Disorder...)

Re: Checkmate...
I wouldn't bother - you'll still be down material - I was just wondering why you resigned so quickly - I can accept panicking - I've done that a bit against Kinty. RCD I'm not so sure about.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Haven't got a board in front of me, but, if I can offer something better or as good or, even, slightly inferior, then I'll do that instead of Monty's suggestion...thebish wrote:Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Sorry got called into a meeting...
