Re: fight the flab
ok - in addition to my strategies of not stuffing my face and doing aerobic exercise, I have settled on this pretty straightforward looking beginner's body-weight routine involving four different body-weight exercises that I shall be building up over the next 6 weeks...
Re: fight the flab
oooof - day one out of the way... it all looks fairly innocuous - but it's not! I'm gonna feel that tomorrow!!
all four exercises, 10reps per exercise, three sets - 90secs rest in between exercises...
I think the side-lunges stretched muscles I don't often stretch or use!!! I think I might alternate - aerobics on monday/wednesday/Friday and body-strength on Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays - and Sundays off!
also - I abandoned the abs-machine and did the sit-ups sans-equipment... I discovered I can't do sit-ups with legs bent - but I can with legs straight... can't work out why, I assumed they might be easier with legs bent! shows how much I know!!

Re: fight the flab
Hmmm. Scales are telling me that in the last week I've lost 5 lbs. That's impossible, isn't it? Even for a lardy old bastard like me.

Re: fight the flab
it's a lot - but not impossible!! you'll know next week when you weigh yourself again!Bruce Rioja wrote:Hmmm. Scales are telling me that in the last week I've lost 5 lbs. That's impossible, isn't it? Even for a lardy old bastard like me.
as for now - celebrate!!

maybe you had more than your usual amount of salty stuff the week before - and have cut it back down again - and so have lost "water-weight"...
(have you moved the scales? I find that if you put them on a different part of the floor they can have a very different reading!)
I'm back in the zone at a tiny snip under a 2lb loss this week - leaving me just 1.2lbs left to reach my target of 11 and a half stone - and the rest of November to get there!

You've done brilliantly well, Bish. Well done.
We have an office Birthday today so I might just let myself have a cake. Hurrah.

I always weigh myself in the kitchen on the ceramic floor tiles (in fact, always on the same tile) so as to get consistent readings.

Abandoning the machine is a good thing if the base of your spine's ok. Crunches are going to be better on the base of your spine than situps. Those heel touches are also easy on the base of your spinethebish wrote:oooof - day one out of the way... it all looks fairly innocuous - but it's not! I'm gonna feel that tomorrow!!

EDIT: did I mention "the base of the spine" enough there?

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: fight the flab
I think you're right... I used the machine because I used to have old-man's grumbling lower back pain - I'm sure that was down to poor core-strength and being too fat...Armchair Wanderer wrote:Abandoning the machine is a good thing if the base of your spine's ok. now I have better core strength and am two and a half stone lighter - the back pain has all but gone - and I can do sit-ups without the machine - albeit a lot fewer of them! (with the machine - a lot of the machine-crunch power comes from arm-momentum, I think - making it much easier...)
PS - I was right about feeling the effects of the body-weight routine the next day... but it wasn't in the morning - in the morning I was fine, and felt quite good about myself - by the time evening came, I could hardly walk!!

Re: fight the flab
OK - having a breather for december/christmas/new year!
I have dropped from just over 14stone to 11st 9lbs (target was originally 12stone) - so am happy with that!
as i have said before - none of my trousers now fit - braces were bought - but the hugeness of my old trousers held up by braces were making me look a bit clownish (which - pace bobo - isn't intrinsically a bad thing - but is generally considered inappropriate for conducting funerals and such like...)
anyway - went into the big city (Exeter!) yesterday to restock my trouser wardrobe... I HAD been buying size 36waist - and even some of those were a bit tight a few months ago.. and some (yeah - age!) were partially elasticated!!
I was very pleasantly surprised that all the trousers I bought to replace them are now 32inch waist!!
(and - bonus - they actually fit!)

Well done Bish. I think I've managed to lose 3kg this year, so another 10kg to get myself to 14 stone which I'd be happy with. Luckily we don't really change eating habits at Christmas, so hopefully I'll break even at least this month

Remarkable work, Bish
I lost a further 1.5 lbs this week. However, this is the week in which we get inundated with chocolates, cakes and booze from travel agents, hauliers and so on. I've cracked on the chocolate front already and it'd be a shame to see the chocolate yule log that's just been opened in the kitchen turn dry.

ideally I'd like to hover somewhere around 11stone - so I have some more to go... but I reckon some kind of a christmas break is in order - so i have reset my MFP calorie totals to a maintenance level... I won't be going mad - but it gives a bit more wiggle room - and i will still be recording what I eat, as i reckon that's a fairly good habit to be in...
after christmas my body will have had a rest from the rigours of starvation and will be ready to lose some more..
also - now I only have trousers of the 32inch waist variety, they just won't fit if I pile on too much! (they do fit - but there is absolutely no danger at all of them falling down!)

2.2 lbs this week. That's 25.7 lbs in total. Still fat.

Well done mate, great result. Strange thing is, if you tried to pick up 26 blocks of lard, you'd probably put your back out. It's a huuuuge amount. Onwards n upwards towards the six pack!Bruce Rioja wrote:2.2 lbs this week. That's 25.7 lbs in total. Still fat.

Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.
Re: fight the flab

Girl Friday was clearly bored yesterday. She's brought me in millionaires shortbread along with plum crumble and custard. Looks like it's all going straight back on. feck it.
