Haha, yeah, you're not far out, only they jazzy it up on the menu with absolute bollocks. A 'composition' of this, a 'symphony' of that and a 'foraged' other. Play your cards right and the chef might deconstruct yer dinner for you.Beefheart wrote:Soup, Chicken Breast & Veg, Profiteroles?Bruce Rioja wrote:Aye. Saw on a menu once 'served with wild garlic butter', I didn't know that garlic butter could be found in the wild.Bruce Rioja wrote:Haha, yeah, you're not far out, only they jazzy it up on the menu with absolute bollocks. That depends on how much change drops out in the ambulances between now and December 14th.Bruce Rioja wrote:And for the full house, is it on the NHS?Bijou Bob wrote:Our admin person is in the process of booking our this week. I've managed to talk them into comedy club and late curry. Get in.

Our lot pay for ours. It's one of the things we thought the new Yank owners would kibosh (particularly the free bar), but no.

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
My eldest lad got his A-level results today. He got B, B & C. Good results, but unfortunately not good enough to get him onto the course at the university he wanted.
He's decided to re-sit them next year.
Absolutely gutted for him. On a positive note, it'll give him chance to get better results and another year maturing before he goes to uni won't do him any harm.

He really should think about clearing! Those results are good enough to find a place. What does he want to study?Always hopeful wrote:My eldest lad got his A-level results today. He got B, B & C. Good results, but unfortunately not good enough to get him onto the course at the university he wanted.

sorry to hear thatthat seems quite a high offer he was aiming at then? My daughter missed her offer by a full 40pts (she was on pts rather than grades as she fluffed some AS levels and so only had two full A-levels in her locker - having to make up pts with AS-levels...)

They were asking for A, B, B.
We had a quick look at clearing, but he's not keen on going to somewhere he doesn't know and in clearing the better universities still don't drop their required grades, so he'd have to go to a 'lesser' uni. He's also very confident that he's got the ability to get better grades, so he'd rather have another go next year, rather than make a rash decision now that he might live to regret for the rest of his life.
Hopefully what's happened will give a kick up the pants and make hime realise what effort's required to get grades that he thought were well within his grasp. Having said that, I'm proud in what he achieved and happy he's showing ambition and confidence in his ability.
Also means he'll be living with us for another year, which I'm really pleased about (and yes, I'm being serious). The house won't be the same without him around. Every cloud....
Hope is what keeps us going.

Sorry to hear that H. Hope Mrs H is OK with it.
Sticking to his guns, knuckling down and doing the degree he wants at a Uni he respects is correct for him. If he took an option he always felt was second best he'd regret it forever.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

The top unis are typically asking for AAA / AAB, so he'd already set his sights a little lower in applying to somewhere looking for ABB.
He really wants to continue to aim high and achieve what he believes he's capable of. If this takes another year, so be it.
Hopefully this is the right decision. By giving himself another year, it'll give us the opportunity to have a look at other unis that he could look at as potential reserves, just in case he doesn't get the grades again next year.
Hope is what keeps us going.

i suspect it's possible he has been hit by the "upgrading" of A-level grades this year... for the first year in ages A level results are worse than the previous year...

My advice - FWIW - is that he finds a uni that currently has a BBC tariff in a city he'd like to live so that he has a secure reserve.Always hopeful wrote:Mechanical Engineering.William the White wrote:He really should think about clearing! Totally understand how you would miss him... Two of my daughters studied in Lancaster - far enough to be independent, near enough to come home - or indeed for us to go up and take her out for a pizza!
Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
that depends on whether the offer will be the same next year - or whether it will have been inflated - and also whether that Uni will frown on grades obtained in 3 yrs rather than 2 yrs...Beefheart wrote: A year is nothing. No point rushing into something for the sake of it.
