Well done - no idea what minute per mile that is as my brain doesn't work this early in the morning but it's sure to be faster then mine! First run 4.67km in 28minutes. Probs shit but YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE
It was also sodding windy so I'll take it
Just reading GtE run makes me look tired!

3.54 miles at an average of just over 9 mins per mile. Well done Athers. Just to mix it up try doing a couple of 30 second or 1 minute increased efforts. That should help with your lactose threshold and, ultimately your stamina.

Thank you for clarifying GtE, didn't have a very good nights sleep! That's my excuse anyway. So we are about the same speed Athers. If you ever find yourself in Sussex and want a running partner just call round!Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Well done - no idea what minute per mile that is as my brain doesn't work this early in the morning but it's sure to be faster then mine! Thanks for the advice, had physio last night and he thinks my pelvis is rotated forward on one side due to jarring downhill running and not enough core work. I'm taped up and in a lot of pain. Going again next Weds and will push for further investigation if not settling down.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Where's the half marathon? I'm injured, limped down the Pike on Sunday and haven't run since. Had physion but it's a wait and see, deep pelvis injury, could be weeks. Bollocks, another attempted comeback bites the dust. Typical really.
Birmingham on Sunday. Sorry to hear about your injury. You were doing so well too. Have you had an X-Ray? Not wanting to sound melodramatic but a suspected piriformis injury two years ago turned out to be a fractured Sacrum.
Heal quick. Recover strong.
Good luck in Birmingham, good race in my old student stomping ground. Went watching a few years ago when it incorporated the World Champs.

Sure I'll get that down toward 8 soon! In the past when I was 'heavier' and as a boy it was always the lungs which burned first (I was asthmatic tbf), but it's the calves now so such things should help

Fingers crossed that it rains in the next 15 minutes and I get out of going for a promised run with a friend that I had forgotten about...

Re: The athletics/running thread
It didn't rain (til halfway round) pleased I went though, 5km done, am seriously hot and sweaty - Its actually quite warm out there. Entertained by (ex London girl) friend bemoaning the villages lack of street lighting every time she stepped in a puddle.
Slightly freaked out when running back on my own by a scary looking man who on a narrow piece of pavement wouldn't let me pass for a while and kept side stepping every time I tried to run past him.
Why would someone do that?
not amused.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Seeing a runner does bring out the inner nobhead in some people. I used to abuse them but can't be arsed any more. They think they are really funny shouting 'Knees up' or 'Forrest' or some such predictable bollocks, like I've never heard it before in 30 years of being a runner!
Well done on getting it done anyway.

Too scared to abuse him - he looked really sinister - though would have liked to though! Probably thought he was being hilariously funny but I'm slow enough as it is without idiot blokes stopping me!LeverEnd wrote:Seeing a runner does bring out the inner nobhead in some people. Nah, it's pretty rare to see anyone out in the Village on a dark rainy Sunday night that isn't a dog walker. I was just unlucky yesterday!Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Too scared to abuse him - he looked really sinister - though would have liked to though! Exercise!
Yesterday I decided to do something different. I set one of those reebok step up things to their maximum height, put boxing gloves on (with plan of doing 60second punching bag straight after) and do 30 burpees on it.
jfc. The pain in your stomach/chest when you get half way through the burpees is excruciating. Nearly passed out first time. Absolutely brilliant though at the same time, works so many muscles, gets the heart rate up...feels a damn sight better than just doing sit ups and stuff anyroad!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Sounds tough that Mr K.
As part of my rehab, I've been looking towards correcting my running gait. Ensuring my knees are up, my feet are striking mid-foot and my cadence is increased. When it all comes together I can definitely tell the difference in my running form and you fairly belt along without pushing it. Tonights 4 mile run which would normally be medium paced at around 8.15 minute miles was nearer to 7.30 minute miles.
If I can increase my mileage in the months to come and keep the same pace (big ask I know) then my recovery will feel complete

Will you be throwing yourself down scree slopes at that pace or is this purely for road?

I would be interested to know more about your gait change. Where does your advice come from? I have a neutral gait but feel like I slouch when I run. I can maintain 7:30 pace for up to half marathons but wonder if your tips might make me more efficient. To be honest I struggled badly at Birmingham on Sunday and only managed 1hr 45mins. which is about 8 minutes off my normal pace.

Re: The athletics/running thread
You two both get a fair few injuries so if you can improve your gait's it should really help with that. Always interesting to check your trainer soles for clues to where you tread and get a coach to video you running if you haven't already. That makes fascinating viewing.

I haven't been 'injured' for a while now. Couple of niggles which may stop me for a few days but nothing significant. I change my shoes regularly and had my gait assessed by video last year. I am prone to heel strike but a lighter running shoe puts me more on the mid foot. Just wondering how I can possibly change my posture or whether that's just my 'way'.

Sounds like you have done a lot already gait wise - do you have a coach at the club you could ask about your posture?Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:You two both get a fair few injuries so if you can improve your gait's it should really help with that.
