What are you watching tonight?

I wondered what the point of them using their own names was too, whether they're supposed to be themselves or some version of themselves like Larry David in Curb. There were parts of it that did feel like a bit of an in-joke but I hope it improves past a slow start. Some nice restaurants and landscapes to look at though.BWFC_Insane wrote:Is it just me (and I've loved Coogan as Partridge and Brydon in human remains) who found this to be bizarre self indulgent crap?
Are they parodying themselves? Or playing themselves? Or playing characters as themselves?
End of the day it seems more like two comedians having a laugh at the audience rather than with them. Bit of an in joke if anything.
I'll watch next week to see if it improves.
Great shout with Human Remains what a show that is! The episode where he tries to play a word game with his missus going through the alphabet to name bands and ends up launching his tea all over her is classic!

I think it's meant to be a bit of a mockumentary, similar to the Trinny and Suzannah one, where they to were not funny.
My Mate went to school with Coogan. Cardinal Langley, in Middleton. He was a cnut then.KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Peter Hook's quote on Coogan playing Anthony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People is gold:Bruce Rioja wrote:Apparently Coogan is an arse. Meh, in the man's own words, everyone's a bit of a c*nt sometimes.
I quite enjoyed it last night and think it could be a grower. You've got Coogan coming across as cocky and particularly condescending towards Brydon who just sits there and takes it, and then occasionally contributing with wry remarks that chip away at Coogan's insecurities that are visible when he's alone.

Ianucci has been tweeting about this for a few weeks, unfortunately its not a proper brand new series, its a online only miniseries flogging Fosters lager.... from wiki
still be good to have him back tho!Alan Partridge's Mid Morning Matters
In August 2010, it was reported that Alan Partridge would make a comeback series online for lager giant Fosters.[10]
On 8th October 2010, it was announced that the new show, entitled Alan Partridge's Mid Morning Matters, would premier on the 5th November 2010 on Foster's comedy site, http://www.fostersfunny.co.uk . In a press release, Steve Coogan announced, in character:
''I am delighted to announce that after years as a regional broadcaster on North Norfolk Digital my groundbreaking radio segment, Mid Morning Matters, will now be accessible to a potential audience of billions via the World Wide Web (www).
That it has taken Foster’s to help realise my dream of joining the information superhighway is a damning indictment of the established broadcasters whose shabby treatment of me on Sept 10th 2001 was frankly shabby. I made dozens of calls the next day, all of which were ignored.
My appreciation must go to Armando Iannucci and Baby Cow for ignoring the lies, god bless them. In the meantime I look forward to “hanging out ‘n’ chillin” with the MySpace generation.''[11]

I watched the first hour of Pontecorvo's Burn which was hugely disappointing. This story of a slave uprising and attempt to establish a free republic in the Caribbean in the early 19th century seemed like it was certain Pontecorvo territory.
It was terrible - the screenplay abysmal and the acting universally wooden. I really couldn't be bothered watching it thru to the end.
Having directed the stunning masterwork The Battle of Algiers - one of the finest movies ever and certainly in my personal top three - it seems like Pontecorvo spent the rest of his career trying to reproduce it. To no avail. Sad.

As above, in person or in other roles I think he's shite, but Partridge will live forever and so I'll always like him for that.Raven wrote:I thought i was alone in not finding anything Coogan does as funny, can't stand himKeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Peter Hook's quote on Coogan playing Anthony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People is gold:Bruce Rioja wrote:Apparently Coogan is an arse.
