Re: the Photo thread
I find it difficult to fathom why someone wouldn't bother having a structural survey carried out for any property, let alone one on the coast. Superb pics, Bish.

Re: the Photo thread
Well done, Mr kint. Not quite illegal but the 2008 guidelines apparently discourage it.mrkint wrote:It's illegal, innit.
This quote is from the Daily Mail. It is suggested that the Mail didn't get things quite right (Quel surpris). The new guidelines say photographs of couples signing the register could invade the privacy of others because their signatures may be visible on the same page. There are further fears that details taken from the wedding snaps could be used by fraudsters planning identity theft and that the photos could be in breach of Crown Copyright.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/23 ... raphy_law/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Guidelines are produced by the General Register Office. According to a Home Office spokesman, they have, for some time now, advised against taking photos in which the (wedding) register may be seen. They warn that the photograph might be a distraction, leading to an inaccurate entry and the need for a formal correction in the register. They are also concerned about the risk of damage to the register, as a fountain pen filled with archival ink hovers for some indefinite time over the page.
They are at pains to point out that this guidance is pretty old hat and has NOT changed as a result of the Data Protection Act.
This is confirmed by the Office of the Information Commissioner, which wrote to the Mail following publication of the story. As they pointed out in their letter, “it would be a complete nonsense if the Act prevented photographs being taken, in the same way that it is nonsense when schools suggest that parents cannot take pictures of their children at a school sports day”. Sadly, this appears to be yet another urban myth attached to the DPA.

Re: the Photo thread
I've been in Scotland for the last week and my photos were heavily dominated by reflections, and by pure chance I got a fairly unique shot. I'd show it here but I've gone and left the SD card at the holiday cottage so you'll have to wait until it's been posted down to me.

Re: the Photo thread
we are told not to allow it by the Registrar General - the register book is a book of legal documents with names/addresses/birth info and other stuff... there are up to four entries on each double page as the book is open... not everyone would want someone else just photographing their details..mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I'm racking my brains here and I can't work out the reason - can you put me out of my misery, please?!thebish wrote:apart from the no flash during the ceremony the only real rule I have is the signing of the register - where i don;t allow them to photograph the actual signing - but there are obvious reasons for that
also - the signing of the register is the signing of an important legal document - as they actually sign it they are supposed to be checking that the details are correctly entered, not posing for a photo...
we get them to pose over an empty page with an empty pen to prevent spoilage/drippage on the register...

Re: the Photo thread
Ah, I hadn't accounted for the possibility of the pages of the register being visible on a photo, or for the couple 'posing', as opposed to simply being photographed in the act.

Re: the Photo thread
I've been in Scotland. It was supposed to be my first holiday with a brand new digital camera but as it happened I had to go to a funeral a couple of days before going away and so never got round to buying the camera, so instead I borrowed an old poxy Lumix - but it did the job.
It was very cold as can be seen by this shot on An Teallach

and this waterfall (!) on the side of Beinn an Eoin

…but mainly the scenery lent itself to photos of reflections.
As in this view of the village of Letters across Loch Broom

and this of Baosbheinn

and this one of my missus walking up the slopes of Beinn an Eoin with an upside down Baosbheinn reflected in the partially frozen loch n-h-oidiche

Nice LLS, but the one of your wife made my eyes go funny. Looks like she's walking underwater and it's frozen on top, but she could fall backwards through a big hole in the cliff....................now where's that crack pipe?.....

Grand images LLS, particularly the upside-down sea. Love the dog pic.

Re: the Photo thread
Yeh, I caught her hiding in the heather, just nodding off. We'd just got down from off An Teallach which was a little hairy with crusted snow and ice corniches everywhere and I'd turned my back on her taking photos of where we'd been and when I turned round again to head on downwards she was nowhere to be seen. And then I spotted her breath frosting in the air, little monkey!clapton is god wrote:. I also love the dog!

Been to Skye quite a few times, got friends who live on Raasay. But I've only been to the Cuillins, Quiraing and Portree. Not heard of the fairy pools before, what are they?mrkint wrote:Beautiful stuff, LLS. scotland really has some arresting scenery.
