Saw a film advertised and told the wife "Looks like one for you". Eight Degrees, a Disney production about eight huskies left behind in an Arctic winter. Severe storms mean they couldn't be rescued and spent six months battling to survive. Finished up watching it and the filming, dog-training and special effects are just brilliant. Two handkerchief job for the wife and if you don't have a lump in the throat at the end you must be related to Pinochio. You sure aren't any sort of dog lover.

I watched it and found it to be contrived, predictable shite. Keep your personal accusations to yourself, soft-lad!
Okay hard boy. I'll mention it to all the huskies I know that if you fall through any ice, they leave you there.

I'm not claiming to be hard anything. I just thought that it was a poor, very predictable film.

I saw a Japanese film back in the 80s called Antactica that sounds very similar to this movie. Is a remake, rip off and entirely different story?

Aye, I've seen it (if it's the one with Paul Walker in), and thought it was pretty boring stuff. Was good when they livened it up a bit, but the scenes of mild peril were very mild.
The San Francisco Chronicle disliked the film, saying "The movie is overly long and much too intense for small children, yet it's filled with dialogue and plot turns that are too juvenile to thrill adult audiences." William Arnold of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reacted favorably ("the dog actors will melt your heart"), but pointed out, as did other reviewers, that "Antarctica buffs" will be critical of errors, such as portraying midwinter events occurring in "balmy, blazing daylight at a time Antarctica is locked in round-the-clock darkness and temperatures of 140 degrees below."

The LoveFilm people have sent me The Kite Runner, which I expect to be quite moving. I'll watch it over the weekend.

Very, very unusually, better than the novel - esp the ending. IMO.

There is an elevator in a multi storey car park in Enfield made by his descendants. It's a Schindlers Lift. No lie.

Fairly sure the General's offering was a Chubby Brown line.

Fairly sure the second one was too, even though, I know there's Schindler Lifts.

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.
Starts tonight on FX 8)

I thought it was a great movie. They could have screwed that film up on so many levels but overall they got it right. I thought at least.

Sounds like the plot line for Stephen King's 'Cell'
