Absolutely. His 'round' is about 4 miles.

I used to have a morning round when I was 11/12. To those of you that know it - Broad oth' Lane (Including the big houses that face the park) down and round on to Rhosleigh Ave. A terrified sprint back up B o L and onto Mackenzie Street, Cameron St and Hamilton St all in the pitch dark. One morning I just realised that getting up at six before wandering around, absolutely shitting myself in complete darkness six mornings a week really wasn't worth the £2 pay on a Saturday.

£2? You jammy bastard. I was paid £1.80 and didn't get a pay rise in the 2-3 years that I worked there. I wouldn't mind, but it always went straight back into his till, spent on mars bars and cheese and onion crisps! He did used to give me comp tickets for the Wanderers (no doubt from lottery ticket sales), so it wasn't all bad!

Well, that was the deal-breaker. :D

The old proprietor used to give me his comps, but when he sold the shop, the new owner wanted them for someone else. After a few miffed weeks I realised that it was no longer worthwhile and Jacked it. Took up washing the neighbours cars instead for 50p a car. Minted. 8)

My round was just over the border from yours, Halliwell Road down to Astley Brook, Sutcliffe Street, Crumpsall Street etc. See, there was this girl lived down there and....all well, I could dream...

We've got the Queen here (Matlock) this morning. I've never seen so many coppers about, they're everywhere blocking roads and being officious. When did it become de rigeuer for rozzers to wear sunglasses too, what's that all about?
She (the Queen) is just visiting Smedley's Mill - that's all. she's not opening a motorway link or chatting to worthies nor even handing out largesse to us mere peasants, just visiting a mill. The only thing of note about Smedley's Mill is that some drug cartel mistakenly delivered about half a million quids worth of cocaine there a few years back. Maybe Liz is head chief honcho of said cartel and come to claim her loot, complete with her besunglassed paramilitary outfit - that'll explain it.

It is a world heritage site though (a bit like your house...).

I don't think it is Monty... The Mills of Cromford including Cromford Mill, Masson Mill, and Arkwright's Mill are indeed a world heritage site, but I think Smedley's Mill is outside the area by a couple of miles. My house is just a SSSI[g](site of special scientific interest [geological]) - actually it is only part of the site Masson Hill - but a significant part nonetheless... 8)

This site sort of implies it is. Basically the Derwent valley mills are a World Heritage site and Smedley's is listed in this site as one of them.

It is also mentioned as such in this other site.

As for your house, it seems to be on void infilling. :D
Investigation of the mineralogy and paragenesis of the fluorspar flat at Masson
Hill, Matlock, Derbyshire, shows the mineralization to be a combination of void infilling
and metaso-matic replacement. The main paragenesis is of the non-sulphides, fluorite,
baryte, and calcite accompanied by a sequence of sulphides, bravoite, pyrite, marcasite,
chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and galena. A wide range of secondary minerals occur in the
oxidation zone.
Glad i was able to clear that up for you.

So am I. I'm pleasantly surprised that the world heritage site is all of the Derwent Mills - I didn't know that!
I knew of course about the mineral specialities of my cave/basement. Did you know that my cave is the only part of the SSSI that is completely inaccessible to the riff raff hoi polloi that makes up this country's citizenry? And they can keep on feckin off out of it too. We, very occasionally, allow one or two geologists in by private appointment, mind. Oh, and the odd archaeologist - it was inhabited by woolly rhinos don't you know [Victoria County Histories - the Dales southern cave system 1889]

I have to confess myself quite unfamiliar with your previous tenants, woolly or otherwise.

I once made he mistake of disturbing a nest of them.

I went out and when I returned went to close the curtains ..... in the dusky light there seemed to be something not quite right. Then I looked and realised that what wasn't quite right was that there curtains were simply a sheet of flying ants. Think films like 'the Mummy' or 'Indiana Jones & the Holy Grail and you're getting the picture.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I have an ants nest just under the paved bit outside my front door. It was covered in flying ants when I got back today at 3pm. I think I got most with bug killer and ant powder.

Feckers have been annoying the shit out of me for the last 12 years. Bastards.

there is a gel that you mix with water and pour over where their nest is, works great
