The athletics/running thread

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

I use it for my music but Hubby doesn't like me running after dark around the mean streets of Lindfield without a phone in case 'something happens'

Not sure if that 'something' is me being beaten by muggers after my iphone, or one of the babies crying... :? :D

Anyway, before I dropped it in the middle of a thunderstorm my iPhone also used to be my Nike plus device which measured how far and fast I was running, so nerr bish! :P

well - ask your gran how to turn the phone bit off then! (or... don't moan when someone phones you on it!)

(there ARE no muggers in Lindfield!)

So this phone has an "app" that can be used for runners?

Now, and please forgive my ignorance here, wouldn't it be wise, if you have equipment that runners tend to use (I would suspect regularly), that you would make this equipment suitable to the environment in which it was being used?

Or is there an app for that too?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Most people probably aren't stupid enough to leave their phone outside in the middle of a thunderstorm I'm guessing... Mines in my pocket when I run.

And the Nike plus app is very cool...

Bishy, I know the only dodgy people in lindfield are sheep rustlers, but I like to pretend that hubby is concerned about my welfare and not just in need of a lifeline when a baby kicks off, ok?! :D

in that case - don't moan when he uses it!!

seriously (for a moment) - do you not think every now and again it would be less stressful to have some genuine time to yourself when you can't be contacted/interrupted? people used to have this when on the train commuting to work... not anymore... men have sheds for a reason - and no real man would take a phone down there....

8) actually - someone what lives here did a survey recently from his back garden (having too much time on his hands) - and concluded that for 3/4 of daylight time there are always at least 3 aeroplanes visible in the air at any one moment (or summat like that), often many more...
Have to say that when I worked on Grosvenor Square, when up on the roof garden, the most I ever counted coming in/and/or/over at once was seven. The day-to-day efficiency of Heathrow is almost a miracle, yet as a passenger I still use Schiphol as a hub instead.
May the bridges I burn light your way

indeed - I was noting the good sense that men have.... men recognise the benefits of solitude in their lives!

Oh good. Relieved you had noticed. ;)

With the flick of a switch I can turn the phone to silent! Plus, I am now writing this on my phone snuggled in my cozy bed, you I would wager, are still up sitting in your study on the pc!

I don't think people should listen to music whilst running. Unless you're in a gym.

I like to look around me and listen out for any unexpected things like cars, (the unremitting shithouses that they are) dogs, cyclists (the unremitting shithouses that they are) and stuff.

Music just gets in the way of me unscrambling my day brain with a good long run.

Ditch the MP3 and breathe deeper.

Nah, I find I run better and faster listening to music and it helps me zone out. Plus theres barely any traffic in the village when I run at night!

I think I was out walking to dog (and using the night-time peaceful solitude to process the day's events without the intrusion of an i-device!)

had I been in bed - that would have been because I wanted to sleep, not surf the web.

clearly you did not manage to "zone out" - because your phone called you back home to sort out a screaming baby cos your hubby couldn't be arsed to sort it himself - which is where we started!!!

The whole point of running is to run fast. The axe wielding Spurs fans wouldn't catch me.

Definitely doing another.

The Bedford Sprint is a series of three races between April and October which I will do next year before moving up to Olympic distance.

In 2013 I'll attempt a couple of half ironmans before stepping up to the big one in 2014/15 (hopefully)
