Re: What are you going to tonight?
We had so much good night life at one time: The Palais, Bury Palais, Navada, Crompton Way Casino, Monaco in Farnworth, Gaiety Club in Westhoughton. You could practically go out and have a good time every night of the week.bobo the clown wrote:Never went .... nor the Navada either. Far too much class.Bruce Rioja wrote:One for Tango here. Even in the mid 90s town was still busy every night of the week. Even Friday nights are dead now.

I thought the Temple won awards hand over fist in the mid-nineties?

Indeed. In the mid / late 80's we'd be in town Thursday through until Sunday.LeverEnd wrote:Even in the mid 90s town was still busy every night of the week. Even Friday nights are dead now.

Saturday night seems to be busier these days. Odd really, I've always preferred going out on a Friday but as you say, it's dead.LeverEnd wrote:Even in the mid 90s town was still busy every night of the week. Even Friday nights are dead now.

Never was a bitter man, Gary, but Chesters dark mild was tasty. Had a spanishy/liquorice tang. Never hear of that either these days.Gary the Enfield wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Not a clue exactly why, but talk of nights out long gone made me remember a beer I haven't heard mentioned in ages; Duttons O.B.J. Aye Cinderella/ Rockerfellas and Ritzy when I knew it. Couple of liveners in the Pink Panther beforehand and then into the throng!
Re: What are you going to tonight?
Pink Panthers was where I started going out in 1991/2. Age not an issue, cheap beer and noisy music. It was around the time Rage Against The Machine and Nevermind albums came out.Gary the Enfield wrote:Worthy4England wrote:I think only when it was Rockerfella's for me...and I think we were thrown out rather than crawled out iirc.Bruce Rioja wrote:One for Tango here. Off to the Lowry tonight for three short monologues by Samuel Beckett. Should put me right in the mood for tomorrow's match.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you going to tonight?
Incredible season opener at the Octagon last night. Extremely moving and powerful production and I swear I had something in my eye as we were leaving the theatre, but then again I was far from being alone in that. Anyone who's wondering what this theatre lark is about needs to get themselves down to the Octagon this next week and see this one. Its authentic life in the trenches written by someone who was there in 1916! I understand the staff are slightly disappointed in sales and there are tickets left for next week.Bruce Rioja wrote:Go and see Journey's End. Absolutely superb. Some really strong performances, especially from the guy playing Stanhope who was absolutely immense. Go and see it as a nice warmer-upper ahead of Early One Morning.
And what a set! Magnificent!
Some owd bugger named Les Smith was all over the place last night. I even went to the gents and found his name staring back at me from the wall ahead.

One of the best pieces of graffiti I ever saw was on a wall at Leeds Uni which read "If Godot shows tell him I waited as long as I could"William the White wrote:Godot - if he turns up!bobo the clown wrote:Ah ... Mine was on a church notice board in Liverpool back in the sixties. The original bit said: "What shall we do when the Lord Comes?!bobo the clown wrote:One of the best pieces of graffiti I ever saw was on a wall at Leeds Uni which read "If Godot shows tell him I waited as long as I could"
The local graffiti caballeros had added below it:
"Move St John to inside right"
