It's an interesting one, but actually it doesn't start until 44 seconds into the track - have a listen here

44 seconds in...

Released 2 years before Stairway to Heaven (which is still one of my all time faves)

Not a fan of them myself, but do we accpet 'Sweet Child Of Mine' by G & R as one of the best guitar riffs / intros?

ending with my personal fave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6KEHF1z40I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (my mate saw that live, and said it blew him away like nothing he'd ever seen before. The jammy barsteward)

For me, they've dug themselves into a bit of a hole with this, because, on CD, the intro is fantastic, it really is. One of my favourites. However, live, they're unable to re-create it, as is evident in the link you posted. The "ah ah" vocals that they do themselves live sound terrible and it makes them sound like some shit indie band like The Futureheads or the Kaiser Chiefs.

I've seen them live around 4 or 5 times and I've seen them use a full ochestra which means they're able to re-create some of the brilliants moments they've had live, including Living is a Problem... and it sounded amazing, as you would expect. If it's just a normal gig, however, it sounds naff.

I dunno, I really like it done that way!

It's all about the Reading do of Glitter and Trauma where he set the guitar alight. Mon the Biffy.

Biggest disappointment I've ever had musically was Only Revelations. After the joyous Puzzle (where a band managed to take their music and make it work it terms of a big sound-stadium type thang-take not the Kings of Leon) following the odd Infinity land, and the brilliant brilliant Blackened Sky and Vertigo of Bliss, they followed it up with that pish. I blame the kids.

I'm just hoping Handwritten by Gaslight doesn't overtake, because Verbs can sod off with his dance music, THAT will be album of the year :D.

Handwritten sounds a bit too much like Gaslight's third album for my liking.

Have you heard it? Where? They said it was going to be more 59 Sound than American Slang, but the single 45 sounds much more like the latter to me. I'd prefer a return to Sink or Swim myself, but I fear I may be the only one. Speaking of '59 Sound...

They'll never top Blackened Sky. I didn't mind Only Revelations initially because I thought That Golden Rule and The Captain were great. The album as a whole was very mediocre.

Haven't even listened to Gaslight's last album. I was disappointed by the single they released (name escapes me) but I loved The 59 Sound and more so Sink Or Swim. We Came to Dance and Boomboxes and Dictionaries are two of my favourite songs ever.

Admittedly, I've not listened to a lot of music for about a year (I've distanced myself from it because I've been involved with music on a regular basis, being in a band and then promoting for around 8 years, so I've got pretty bored of it as a whole) so I've not really listened to a lot of new albums, but one album which I've listened to recently and loved is the new Linkin Park album and I don't see any album beating that any time soon. A lot of people would laugh at that but they're a different band that what people remember. They've ditched the nu metal stylings that made them huge and over the last couple of albums have gone down an electronic/experimental route. The new album is fantastic and a really big surprise in that they've really matured as a band.

These two songs in particular, whilst not the best on the album, probably showcases just how different they are to what they once were -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50v-klAV7JM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Love the two key changes when they change from rap to singing.

I'm guessing you mean American Slang the single? Probably the weakest song on the album, the rest of which is actually pretty damn good. The Diamond Street Choir and Bring It On probably the best two. I saw Brian Fallon play with Chuck Ragan's revival tour which was kind of a stripped down do where they played their own and each others' songs. Diamond Street Choir then was fecking awesome.

Picture is shoite but sound is OK.

The album does suffer for not having a Navesink Banks or Here's Looking at You Kid on it though.

If that's the best song of all time, this must be up there too.

Quite possibly. I was at Linkin Park, because my daughter wanted to see them (rather than out of personal choice :-) ). As it happens, I've been to worse gigs, but they were a number of notches better than Biffy Clyro, "on the night".

Was that the same night Biffy Clyro supported Linkin Park? At the time, they were pretty out of their depth playing an arena, but they've improved a great deal since then. They're not really an arena type band, like, Linkin Park for example so probably a bit unfair to judge them on that one gig.

Linkin Park never fail to put on a great show. Their light and stage show is up there with the best.

I've been listening to Have Heart tonight. Amazing hardcore band that unfortunately split last year.

Not for everyone, so I wouldn't suggest listening to it if you think Metallica are heavy
