Re: The Politics Thread
Basically sums up my interest in the issue.thebish wrote:This AV debate might be interesting...
Cameron is in the NO camp. The NO camp thinks that its most powerful argument is that AV will bring perpetual coalition (which they see as a bad thing) and - more pointedly - perpetual Clegg.
they are currently debating how hard to go on the "perpetual Clegg - how awful would that be?" argument... if they go big on it - then Dave might look slightly awkward!! Also - how clever does Dave look if the NO campaign's chief argument is that COALITION leads to weak and poor government - when all the time he tells us it leads to grown-up sensible government?
I think there will be many subtle nuances and much awkwardness to come...

Re: The Politics Thread
I really cant decide which to way to go with this AV/electoral reform debate. Clegg wants us to go one way and Cameron wants us to go the other. Is there a way I can piss them both off?

I doubt it
You seem to think they might have, so would you care to expand?

Hobo'll be more happy with claiming benefits now though.
Always look for the positives.
And on a more serious note, does that mean if I go to a petrol station at certain times of the week, I'll have to wait behind a queue of OAP's collecting their OAP?
Because, from where I'm sat, if they don't do that then they'll have to install new service windows and employ extra staff. Which will involve cost. If it ain't broke...

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Ah but that will have been built into the contract so I should imagine we'll all be queuing more for our petrol and booze.Lord Kangana wrote:Hobo'll be more happy with claiming benefits now though.

encouraging people to cash their dole in an offie... sounds like madness to me...CAPSLOCK wrote:I doubt it

and - do i want a queue of people waiting to cash their giros at the petrol station to add to the bastards who are doing a week's shopping in there??? no!

If that headline was in the Mail, you'd have stuck it in the reasons to be angry thread..tis at best misleading, at worst a blatant lie
Anything that reduces the cost of delivering benefits gets the thumbs up from me
FWIW, I'd insist all benefits were paid into bank accounts - no bank account, no benefit

do you think that offies won't offer Giro-day specials?
and - how long do you think it will be cheaper - until the Post Offices go out of business? then - with effectively no competition, the price will go up...
also - what if payPoint goes bust next year, or the year after?
Re: The Politics Thread
If folk want to cash their benefits in the offie and buy ale for themselves, so be it
You reckon cos folk are on benefits they're too think to find the offie?
Ifs, ifs and more ifs
Fcuk me, it's all 'yeah, but, no, but' with you
And if paypoint does go, but then why should it because as horrible capitalists they'll put the price up when they've killed off Post Offices, then we'll pay it direct to the bankaccounts
Post offices..I can honestly say I've not been in one for over 10 years...most folk who don't stink of piss would say the same

hmmm... if you've not been in a post office for 10 yrs - how do you know that people who go there stink of piss? (a bit like you railing against the contents of the match thread - which you then proclaim you haven't read...) it's all empty huff and puff with you....
as for paying directly into bank accounts - a good idea in principle - if only you could persuade the banks to offer all people a bank account. it is still not a legal entitlement to HAVE a bank account - and many people are routinely refused....

Re: The Politics Thread
Its an interesting perspective, but one derived from very narrow horizons.
I know people who use the Post Office regularly because they do much of their business online and via mail. I myself use them quite ofeten for a whole host of reasons. some business related, some not.
So, your opinion of my Sex Panther aroma aside, its all about encouraging people to get off their arses and do business for themselves, right? The Post Office does a pretty decent job of that at the minute.

I think you'll find they are padded envelopes, CAPS - they are for sending stuff in the post... they might do the trick though, if you were desperate...CAPSLOCK wrote:Collecting your incontinence pants?Lord Kangana wrote:I know people who use the Post Office regularly because they do much of their business online and via mail. Re: The Politics Thread
A good mate of mine was a real wizz-kid in our industry (if they exist?!) and had his own little empire in The Lakes when foot and mouth hit a while back. He says he couldn't get anything for a while after his bankruptcy.
His bitterness at the local farmers (his "friends", neighbours and regulars in the main) for their abuse of government bailouts is for another discussion some time.
