Don't run if it gets on your chest (easy boys). You'll just make it worse.Gooner Girl wrote:Running partner bailed out on me again but thinking I might go out anyway tonight, do a hills session. Got the sniffles a bit though.

Re: The athletics/running thread
See I know this, but had been feeling quite inspired recently so ignored common sense and gave it a go. Wrong move. Jogged out to hill fine and decided to do 2 sets of 5 reps of a hill that whilst not super steep must have been about 200 metres long. Legs felt great and enjoyed striding out but halfway through second set really struggled with my chest and breathing and had to abort.Gary the Enfield wrote:Don't run if it gets on your chest (easy boys). Meanwhile, Lever End is practically flying round Bolton park run.

Haha, cheers GG, good to see you back on here. I went from parkrun to Beverley to visit friends, got back about 6.30 still hungover but still managed 35 mins easy at 8 this evening, must be getting keen again. Haigh Hall 4 miler Weds eve is the next race.Gooner Girl wrote:See I know this, but had been feeling quite inspired recently so ignored common sense and gave it a go. Wrong move. Brilliant night tonight.
First open water swim of the season. 4 laps of the lake (1000 metres) followed by a sprint round the complex of about 2k. All topped off with a fantastic thunderstorm with lightning and torrential rain.

Had a day off yesterday so managed a couple of hours running over the moors. Was very sluggish but good to get that time on the legs. Tonight's spin class was interrupted by a fire alarm which was a bit of a downer. I'm sure I spotted LE on the car park too, which to be honest, will be a lot closer to him than I'll manage at tomorrow's Haigh hall race

"Get your feet off the furniture you Oxbridge tw*t. You're not on a feckin punt now you know"
Re: The athletics/running thread
Yes that fire alarm was a pain in the arse, kids in foil blankets from the pool didn't look too happy! I was doing pilates after doing spin on Monday. Didn't see you but will catch you this evening. Another race with massive hills, looking forward to a flat 5k a week on Friday.Harry Genshaw wrote:Gary the Enfield wrote:Brilliant night tonight.

Well done though G, your training seems to be going really well.

That sounds great GtE, going to start swimming next week with a view to having a go at open water at some point.

Highly recommended. Not sure whether I was safer in the water in a rubber wetsuit, or when we got out and started running. Here's the lake/ pond I swam in.

And this is how clear it was:

GtE - that water looks FREEZING. Glad you had a good time though, thunderstorm must have been exciting!
Harry - You must have been chilly shivering in your leotard outside the leisure centre, hope no one mistook you for a girl again.
Good luck to you and LE for tonight. Supposed to be sunny!

Honestly? Apart from hands feet and face it was fine. The wetsuit takes the brunt and once you're up to pace the bloodflow comes back into them.

Good luck from me too you two.
GG how was track last night? Did you go in the end?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Yes, I did go. Wrapped up warm!
Worked with a friend, Ben, coaching long jump to the teenagers. We managed to get a bit of bounding down the runway and a few jumps in before they came over for their session so not too arduous but it alternated between sunshine and showers so couldn't go all out anyway as slippy underfoot. Very gentle intro back in but given I'm still not 100% that wasn't a bad thing.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Cold has cleared, off out for a short, gentle jog with a friend in a bit. Hope it's cooled down somewhat, it's been boiling here today. Swam outside this afternoon, weather a bit different from GtE's swim Tuesday!
Lever End, how was park run yesterday?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Not very good. After my 18:00 last week I went off too fast trying to crack 18 and ended up blowing out of my arse and running 18:31. Still better than a month ago, thanks for asking. Got the Christleton 5k on fri eve, very flat and fast so looking for sub 17 in that.Gooner Girl wrote:Cold has cleared, off out for a short, gentle jog with a friend in a bit. Just done 53 mins round Rivington reservoirs, love running on nights like this, fancied a dip in one of the ressies though.
Did you get out for an FA Cup victory run?

Was the fast lad who always beats you away this week then? Did you blow your chance to win it?!

You may find that you have a few more interested spectators than after your last cup win, if that's how you celebrate!!

He wasn't there but 2 other people beat me instead! Yeah, but don't forget the last time she did it she was a lot younger.

17 minutes LE? That'll be excellent if you can crack that. Haven't done a 5 k in aaaages now. I doubt I'd be anywhere near my PB now as I'm concentrating on 8 minute miling which is perfect race pace for my 10ks and Half-marathon runs on the tri events.
Yesterday I decided to cycle to my workplace. It's only 12 miles (so 24 in total but it includes a few inclines (there are no hills down here I'm told).
I managed each way in 50 minutes, averaging 14 miles an hour which I don't think was too bad. There are some utter lunatics on the road though. One doddery old fart indicated (and almost turned into) three consecutive junctions, forcing me to brake sharply and one boy racer in his dad's open top Jag thought it'd be funny to ride alongside me shouting random noises before haring off.
I'm not the most confident cyclist and this kind of thing puts me off cycling on a regular basis but I need to up my mileage. Guess it's back to the turbo.
