Am I glad I'm home. Never seen anything like it in all my life. The city of Liverpool was gripped by rumour, decapitated bodies (supposedly) and a general attempt to leave the city. It was like a martian invasion everyone was trying to escape. I work right on the Mersey and the building was rocking. On hearing buses and trains were being cancelled left right and centre the issue was forced and we got off early. But we have to make the time up...

Aye, but I bet it's not just blowing through his teeth (assuming it is a reference to Bob Dylan).perfan wrote:Never has your username rang truer.Idiot Wind wrote:I've got a similar problem......Weaver Viaduct. But I do work from home so I should be all right.
Has it been a bit windy today or something?
Safe home chaps and chap-asses.

was in London last night. This morning the power was out at Kings Cross tube, so had to alight at Euston Sq. Walking down Euston road a wooden hoarding round building site had collapsed on a woman - 4 fire engines, 2 ambulances, 5 police cars and 4 paramedic vehicles in attendance - for one woman! No trains were running direct to leeds, even though they were passing through the station. Had to change at Doncaster. What with restricted speed due to the wind it took 5 hours to get from London. It took 2 hours to get down on Wednesday afternoon!
Drive home from the station there were 3 trees down within 200 yards of each other on part of the a58 and even a set of traffic lights, the lights themselves had been blown of the pole!
.
Anyway, I got home to find a letter from the Tax man. "F**K!!!" I thought. Opening it with trepidation, to find "Dear Mr Communistworkethic, we've calcualted you've payd too much tax (Too f***ing right I have!!!). Please find enclosed a cheque for £291." Kerching!!!!!! F*ck you Gordon Brown!!

Apart from the obvious tragedies where people have been hit/killed by flying debris, is it just me that thinks people are making far too much of this? It's a bit windy, alright, nothing major, not a fricking hurricane or a tornado. We are so shite at dealing with any sort of weather in this country - anything more than a dusting of snow and we're all cacking our pants because it's an 'arctic winter', anything above 25 degrees in the summer and it's a 'heatwave', anything more than about 10mm of rain and it's flood central. It's a crock of shit, and I hate the fuss and performance that people make over just a bit of weather... Yes, it'll cause a bit of inconvenience, and a few incidents will occur with damage to property or vehicles, but seriously, let's get a grip eh?

Nope - my garden has brick walls, which are still standing. But seriously though, it's hardly a huge deal, is it?Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes Blurred. It's not you that's just come home only to find that half of the back fence bordering your neighbour to the left is currently in the back garden of your neighbour to the right, is it?!

Yeah, the fence on the left has cleared the wall on the right. It's just a load of fecking about that I could do without. Also, it looks as though a fair chunk of it has landed in next door's fishpond. You don't know where there's a funfair on anywhere, do you?blurred wrote:Nope - my garden has brick walls, which are still standing. I feel for all of you, and I hope everyone is safe. However these things are common events in the US. Not that the media doesnt make it sound like it's unusual or new. It was 6 degrees Farenheit yesterday and the "weather team" in Boston had to get a new graphic. "The BIG FREEZE" or some such shite.
In Boston FFS! A city known for being cold in, that's right, the Fecking Winter! I despair sometimes.

A huge deal? Hyperbole anyone?Crouch > Davies wrote:Last time I looked fencing wasn't cheap. So I would consider it a huge deal.
Seriously - Hurricane Katrina = huge deal. Now that's weather. Not a bit of wind like we've got here.
Yes, be careful out there because it is dangerous with gusting winds, and be safe on the roads and when travelling, but let's have some perspective eh? It's tragic that some people have been hit and killed by flying debris, but we're not facing 'devastation', just some mis-placed garden furniture and chimneys by and large.
