B1-D2 C7-C5
G1-F3 B8-C6
E4-E5 ...
(still haven't set up a board, and I've a nasty feeling that move might be a tad early, but hey-ho I'm impulsive).

This is riveting. Just nipping out for some popcorn, hope that I don't miss any of the action.

I beat Jimbo by a technicality.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: Checkmate...
I recently started using the chess by post app that's available for most smart phones.
It's a modern take on correspondence chess and matches you up with players of a similar ranking.
Can also do challenges against opponents whos usernames you know.
Interesting form of chess notation used above!
1. e4 e6 2. d3 d5 3. Nd2 c5 4. Ngf3 Nc6 5. e5 Nh6
Note to black, a knight on the rim is dim.

I've not heard that one before. I'm presuming it relates to restricting number of available moves, but it can't apply as a general principle to all situations, Shirley.Caro-Kann wrote:I recently started using the chess by post app that's available for most smart phones.

Re: Checkmate...
I think we need a picture to follow this. As far as I can tell kinty used the French Defense (seldom seen in first class chess these days) and Spotty used the even rarer King's Indian attack (P-Q3 instead of P-Q4). All very unusual...mrkint wrote:Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Game One (LLS white, Kinty black)

Lines? I don't do lines.mrkint wrote:The French is still quite common, monty, though feck knows what this line is supposed to be
I've obviously heard of the names of some openings, Ruy Lopez, for example, but I wouldn't know it if it hit me between the eyes. I just move the pieces according to where I want them and if they end up in some unorthodox move then the more the merrier.
