He's barred from everywhere. Somebody posted a list of the places he got barred from and a week later Keveh had to ask for donations because the list had broken the internet... There IS a reason why he's domiciled in Wales you know...LeverEnd wrote:You lucky, lucky barsteward!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I love living around here and have no desire to leave. Rivington & the Wanderers on my doorstep. Why move? Wouldn't mind retiring to North Wales though when I'm proper knocking on

Always thought those villages near the sea and close to Snowdonia looked quite charming. Are they not then?

They talk proper funny over there. They were quite unpleasant to me when I were a 17 year old living there. If you took the people out then it'd be really nice.Harry Genshaw wrote:Go on Bobo. Re: Where would you emigrate to
In all seriousness ... Snowdonia etc. can be very pretty, but quite remote. The people ... massive generalisation of course ... are not especially welcoming. The caricature image is not undeserved. There is a real "local place for local people" thing there .... read up on local protests about a development on Anglesey for a current example. The language zealots have really got a grip and are generally negative to incomers. The economy is in tatters, education and health services are in a mess and any non-Welsh (and by that I don't mean Cardiff, which they loathe) solutions are looked at suspiciously.
As I said, a huge generalisation but not too far from reality.
If you go to the places and look beyond the immediate then you don't need to dig too deep to see how on the edge lives, jobs, opportunity is.
If you were to be serious then look around pockets of real class like Conwy and drive into the hills for their beauty. Llandudno us nice enough and I especially like the Menai area of Anglesey and up to Beaumaris. For every Beddgelert though there are dozens of run down hamlets.

Re: Where would you emigrate to
Spot on Bobo. I moved to Llandudno at 16 and went to college in Llandrillo-yn-Rhos. The only hostility I came across was when I played basketball matches in Gwynedd, particularly the smaller towns/villages. Whinging is the local sport and they are world class at it. Everything is the English fault, but many of them can't be bothered to help themselves. I've lots of good memories from living there, but a few nasty incidents to cloud it too. Quite a few scousers in Llandudno, but easy to avoid them

Re: Where would you emigrate to
One of my mates has a cottage in a little place just south of Wrexham called Erbistock. Stunning little place that I never want to leave, overlooking The Dee and 100 yards from a fantastic gastro-pub that serves wonderful nosebag and a splendid selection of real ales (flagged floors and open fires too). The bastard's seven years younger than me.Harry Genshaw wrote:Wouldn't mind retiring to North Wales though when I'm proper knocking on

... which is love;y. As is Overton, Bangor-on-Dee, Rossett (where Mr & Mrs Hopeful live), where I live isn't too shabby as is lots of what you should call 'the Borders'. Get into Welsh Wales at your peril though.Bruce Rioja wrote:One of my mates has a cottage in a little place just south of Wrexham called Erbistock. Re: Where would you emigrate to
I've always found that the nearer you are to north west Wales and Anglesea, the more unwelcoming they are. The people of Pothmadog have always seemed needlessly rude, as have the people of Stirling in Scotland.bobo the clown wrote:... which is love;y. Re: Where would you emigrate to
I've never seen that side of Wales tbh. Just got back from our 12th (?) trip in the last 10 years. We always go to a village by the name of Clynnog Fawr, which is in between Caernarfon and Pwlhelli. Some of the villages are lovely, very close to the sea and the Llyn peninsula does seem to get some excellent weather. We've always found the folk to be really friendly but whether that would be the same if you were a neighbour I don't know.
Welsh is pretty much spoken everywhere now, even amongst the young so I imagine it would be worth learning if you were to live there permnantly.
