Here he is, getting hit ont' todge. Piss poor fielding - no sympathy here.Worthy4England wrote:Captain Cook off with a knob injury. T'was a belter too.

I think we can be quite happy with the end of the first innings.
Cook dismissed though and currently 143 in front. If Bell fails again, will he be dropped?

Re: 2015 Ashes
If he does, I think he has to be. He's a top man on his game, but he hasn't been there for a while. Jonathon Trott and Matt Pryor both faded away as England stalwarts, might be Bell could follow them. Hope not, I've always liked him.jaffka wrote:I think we can be quite happy with the end of the first innings.

What about Cook? He's done double shit again. He should bat with his cock. It seems to be the only thing that he's capable of connecting with the ball with.jaffka wrote:I think we can be quite happy with the end of the first innings.

Wonder how much damage Starc is doing to his ankle by keeping running in on it.

If he wasn't the captain then he would surely be scrutinised.Bruce Rioja wrote:What about Cook? He's done double shit again. He should bat with his cock. How may are we happy with setting them? Anything over 300 surely makes us strong favourites? Still plenty time though, so while I'm liking this aggressive approach, no need to rush!

I'm happy with us setting them 450+ with 4 sessions to go. Can't talk about the number and not the sessions left.Prufrock wrote:How may are we happy with setting them? I'm conscious that's a long way off, still.
Re: 2015 Ashes
True, but surely there's a score at which it becomes academic because they're never getting that in a 4th innings regardless of the number of sessions?
Someone on the BBC live text suggested trying to bat through to close tonight sensibly, then going ODI with whoever is left tomorrow morning and then get after them. Seems sensible to me. Rumours of rain on Sunday too. Would be gutting not to win from here. Oh well, it's nice to be talking about maybe winning one*, it's been a while!

The thought that it's academic, is academic. No one in their right minds would leave 300 with six sessions - there's been plenty of unsuccessful run chases > 300, alongside the ones that were successful.Prufrock wrote:True, but surely there's a score at which it becomes academic because they're never getting that in a 4th innings regardless of the number of sessions?

Interesting. Just seen a stat saying that him and Root are the top two scoring batsmen in test cricket this year, though playing in 6 tests so far i guess helps.jaffka wrote:If he wasn't the captain then he would surely be scrutinised.Bruce Rioja wrote:What about Cook?
