Might give it a whirl on the grounds I only can't stand 2 of them. Always a good basis for deciding what to watch. :-)

hmmm... mixed bag - could drop Carr and Laverne as far as I am concerned....
The only one that was half decent was Brooker - and I can usually take or leave him.
How very dare you, Mitchell was hilarious.

No. He's never hilarious, most of the time he doesn't get past boringly smug. He was about half as funny as Laverne.

I find Mitchell very funny... thing is, I think you have to be quite clever yourself to appreciate his humour...

I'd love to see what Charlie would write about his own haircut in screenburn!

Ha - good point.

Really like Brooker, but since he married that Blue Peter bird I think he has lost his edge and is in danger of becoming one of the people he was usually so good at slagging off.

My degree, was rather higher in classification than his 2:2...

Which is probably how I can recognise him for what he is.

Smug, unfunny and totally crap without a script.

Can you get smugger than Brooker though?

End of the day intelligent folk on the telly are usually described as smug. Which is unfortunate IMO.

I think Mitchell is great, his "Hunt" rant was the highlight on the show for me by some distance.

i generally like comedians who can rant well - and mitchell can.

i think he was pretty much bested by David Willetts, though, and struggled to be funny as he was clearly struggling...

Brooker started to lose his edge, but improve the thickness of his wallet, when he moved away from PCZone. :-) He's now quite smug too, but yes you can get smugger than Brooker fairly comfortably with Mitchell. On what basis is he "intelligent?"

I really didn't "get" the "let's talk to a politician" bit. What was that all about? I'm going to try and be really funny in a particularly incisive and political way? Right on, brother! Dross.

No, just plain out and out smug.

See, it doesn't work very well.

But like you say, you'd have to be clever to recognise it.

I don't think the interview bits worked very well tbh. Though I thought he pretty much embarrased Willetts with the whole "so you're saying that the system we went through was not fair? Perhaps we should pay it back"

But I think they were treading a fine line with all guests not to interrupt or annoy them too much, presumably as they don't want to deter others from going on it. Not sure they need guests.

I'm not sure he did at all - as he didn't seem to be offering to pay it back himself... I just thought that whole interview didn't really go the way he hoped - cos Willetts is a very clever operator - cleverer than mitchell (but not cleverer than Worthy, probably)

me neither... guests don't work well on a show like this if your primary focus (a-la-Carr) is to make a joke about them being called Bjorn - but as the interview unfolds discover that they might actually be a genuinely interesting and engaging person to talk to properly - but you spend most of the stupidly tiny amount of the time you have allowed yourself crow-barring in your pre-planned gags and reassuring the audience that maybe it would be worth inviting him back one day - because, actually, they'd rather listen to him than you....
