That's almost worth a thread in itself Bruce: 'Gigs/Films you've walked out of'.Bruce Rioja wrote:So, last night, something that I've been looking forward to for ages. Paddy Considine's band playing in a brewery. The ale was shit but nowhere near as bad as the band, or more particularly the sound. First gig that I've ever walked out of in my life.
Jethro Tull at the Apollo. Utter sh1te of the first order. Skyfall - Likewise.

Bruce Springsteen at the MEN - left after an hour of his three hour set. Skyfall too (as it happens) started watching it three times not got more than an hour in yet. Dragged along to Human League by missus at the Apollo - even she wanted to leave (I was only there under duress) so suited me fine.Bijou Bob wrote:That's almost worth a thread in itself Bruce: 'Gigs/Films you've walked out of'.Bruce Rioja wrote:So, last night, something that I've been looking forward to for ages. What tour? And why? I've always found Tull to be fantastic live (apart from the terrible show I saw at Victoria Park a couple of years ago)
They're not the liveliest of bands but their music is sublime.

It was just a weird pastiche of what it could have been, with indulgent 20 minute flute solos and the whole band so far up their own chuffs you could barely see their Cuba heels.

I've seen them loads of times. Always value for money for me. Anderson's a bit of a megalomaniac but he is superbly talented.

Just off for an all day staff piss-up meeting. First stop is The Clarence in Bury for a meal. Heard good things about it. I shall report back. When I say 'staff', there's only three of us.

Bury colleague speaks very highly of it. Apparently they've just spent £1m on it. As well as a restaurant it's its own micro-brewery. Have a great day - it sounds like you mightclapton is god wrote:Just off for an all day staffpiss-upmeeting. First stop is The Clarence in Bury for a meal. Heard good things about it. Re: Where are you going tonight?
Very classy place! A couple of pints in the nearby Trackside first and then in The Clarence for another couple downstairs before a bit of a rustic meal upstairs. Soup, pie and mash and he best cheese cake I've ever had. Throw a bottle of white and a bottle of red in and £32 each makes for a very nice afternoon. Highly recommended.Bruce Rioja wrote:Bury colleague speaks very highly of it. Apparently they've just spent £1m on it. As well as a restaurant it's its own micro-brewery. saw enablers on wednesday - sound was shit at the start but when that was fixed they were great. Kayo Dot didn't come on until about 11.15 and left after two songs due to barely being able to be awake
then went to see afrika bambaataa dj last night, was amazing.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Just got home after a day out.
First stop in Manc for a meal at Jamie Olivers with my daughter and granddaughter.
I don't know what it is with Jamies, but that's two meals there in the last month and I've not been impressed with either. I love the place and the ambience but the food is turning a bit meh.
Then on to Bolton for Hindle Wakes at the Octagon. Now this, I loved! Cracking production of this great northern comedy drama, full of real characters and sparkling dialogue. And the Octagon seem to have unearthed a real star in the making in Natasha Davidson.
Speaking of the Octagon, anyone know where WtW is? Never been heard of since mid January!

Scored tickets for Arvo Part in July. That should be suitably magnificent.
Was away last week so missed out on the sale of tickets to Bjork and Vic & Bob. Oh well

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Been today, rather than tonight.
Had a wander round the Art Gallery this morning. Must be an illusion I know, but it seems to get smaller every time I go and they're not doing much on changing picures around. I can only stand The Death of Seneca so many times a year. A tidy big chunk of wall space has now gone to hanging a painting of Amir Khan....Must be said, he and Nev the barber don't quite have the appeal of a Turner or two.

Booked the day off to play in a golf comp. 100 blokes ready for a shotgun start at 8:30. Comp called off due to waterlogging at 8:15. Struggling for stuff to do now that doesn't involve (a) Doing some work, or (b) Licenced premises.

I think given all the evidence I could see the last half of your sentence followed by (b).TANGODANCER wrote:Driving Range followed by a large full English breakfast.Bruce Rioja wrote:Booked the day off to play in a golf comp. 100 blokes ready for a shotgun start at 8:30.
