Mrs GtE went to Uni. there when it wasn't Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The fireplace, in one of the rooms of Bretton Hall, was the site of the nude wrestling scene with Oliver Reed and Alan Bates from the film version of 'Women in Love'

The airport. Texas in the morning. Bit of a bummer that it's a 3.30am start though.

The Yorkshire of the Americas. Enjoy that.Bijou Bob wrote:The airport. Texas in the morning. Bit of a bummer that it's a 3.30am start though.
One tip .. don't say "Tex-Mex food is OK but after a while, well, there's only so much you can do with chilli." Tends to end conversations.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Tonight, we're apparently off to Texas Pride. I'd love to think it's going to be lots of burly blokes in Stetsons, sequinned dresses and heels but I expect it'll be somewhat different to the Manchester event. Sadly.

Chinatown in Noo Yoik. To be honest, I'm a bit 'Meh' about the place at the moment. Detested times square, but currently enjoying a beer in Little Italy. Any recommendations gratefully received!

It's been a while but I really enjoyed the music and food in Greenwich Village and the eateries around Central Park. Times Square is just a bigger Piccadilly Circus, but there were a number of Steam Brewery bars around there.
However this was in 2000 and the Twin Towers were still standing.

Cheers people. It's looking up, enjoyed Greenwich Village and Washington park. Great thai and Vietnamese food so far and thanking god for vegetables after a week in Texas, where it's meat, meat n more meat, occasionally with fries.

had a fab night out last night at "Yellowfest" - so called cos it is held at Plainmoor - the Torquay Utd ground (and Torquay play in yellow...) =- not to be confused with Newton Abbot's "Lemonfest" at the racecourse soon!
I hadn't really expected it to be anything much - but the missus was dead keen - so went along to keep her company and pay for drinks etc...
anyway - turns out it was fab! main acts were old gimmer acts - it was an old gimmer festival!
Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford (from squeeze) - just the two of them - knocked out some of their newer material and solo stuff (meh!) but also (of course) churned out the full best-of Squeeze back Catalogue - which was ACE!
then 10cc headlining - which doesn't sound inspiring - but turns out to be fab! consumate professionals - at ease, relaxed, massively talented vocally and all of them on several instruments - and know how to put on a show - and all seem like genuine nice blokes... actually we saw them without realising it as we arrived at the stadium - they were getting out of a fairly nondescript van and ambling through one of the stadium back doors - we just thought it was 5 or 6 old blokes out for the day!
highlight - live version of "I'm not in love" - which they performed live - no tricks - and it sounded almost identical to the version I remember from the 70s... no added backing vocals - all done as-is yet sounds as if it was recorded in a studio...
these guys can play!

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Have seen Squeeze a few times, and also seen Tilbrook perform a solo acoustic set at the Town Hall. Absolutely superb. Never received the true recognition that he/they deserve.
Sounds like a fine evening out does that, Bish.

Surprised to hear you don't remember seeing Graham Gouldman (is he still with 10cc these days ? ), out & about Bish. My dad used to decorate his house just off Bamford Way. Check out the track Feel the Benefit parts 1, 2 and 3. One of those tracks which take me immediately back to my yoof.
As for Tilbrook and Difford, seen both several times. Solo, together and with Squeeze. Always a total treat. Last time wife and I saw GT, he and his band were having tea (& a few pints), in the local Witherspoons in Ryde, prior to the gig in the town hall.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Where I'm not going is more to the point. Had made outline plans to go watching Alabama Shakes at The Apollo this weekend with LE, but it turns out that he's got a do on and can't go.
The Princess has just asked me if I'd like two free tickets.

There is no such thing as a free ticket. She wants to give you a hotpocket in return.Bruce Rioja wrote:Where I'm not going is more to the point. Had made outline plans to go watching Alabama Shakes at The Apollo this weekend with LE, but it turns out that he's got a do on and can't go.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Anyway the do Bruce mentioned is my mate's 40th in Leicester. He is combining it with his Dad's 70th and as they are a musical family there's a bit of a gig going on. He and his Dad will do a bit but the main attraction is the band Osca, of which his brother is frontman. They've been signed up by some US label and are doing quite well by all accounts. Not entirely my cuppa but sounds pretty decent.
Anyone heard (of) them?
I've heard this track used on Sky
and like the sound of this one.
