Just go in with no expectations and don't get into a childish sulk with yourself if things don't go to plan, like me!Gooner Girl wrote:Ugh, just got back from Harriers. The year 8's were little brats at Long Jump tonight and then I did a Triple Jump session which I totally sucked at before a short run. Supposed to be competing in a few weeks, having second thoughts now.
Anyway I'm out of my sulk now and have done 2 x 30 min runs and a spin class in the last 4 days, legs feel like I've run a marathon despite only having 2.5 weeks off.
Long bike ride tomorrow (well, long for me at least).

Re: The athletics/running thread
Not sure I should be going in at all, have to take the twins with me as Mr GG is away for the weekend. Fully expecting Jack to have a meltdown every time the gun goes off and Jessie to want to try and join in the races on track. I bet Jonathan Edwards never had to deal with these sorts of issues and distraction's.LeverEnd wrote:Just go in with no expectations and don't get into a childish sulk with yourself if things don't go to plan, like me!Gooner Girl wrote:Ugh, just got back from Harriers. I'm almost counting down the days til I become a veteran, depressing as that is. I might do quite well then.
How's the conditioning work going btw?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ran 10k for the club tonight at St Albams. Nice flat course mostly under tree cover. Felt terrible the first 5k with stomach gripes and calf cramps. Coming back I hit the 7k mark and started feeling stronger and stronger. Finished in 46:42 which is slow for me but pleasing considering I nearly quit after 3k.
Re: The athletics/running thread
You just forget times at that point, it feels good to have stuck in and finished strongly when it would be so easy to drop out. Last race I did was a 3k track and I felt like dropping after 800m, was horrible, but I decided a while ago never to drop out unless properly injured. well done to you.Gary the Enfield wrote:Ran 10k for the club tonight at St Albams. Cheers LE. I have never not finished. I feel like it often but never have.

Well done for persevering GtE. You have good mental strength. Should stand you in good stead for that half ironman next month!

Don't remind me. I have my third Olympic distance race in early August. Why is it that you forget the pain of a race within a couple of days and start to look forward to the next one? I should get someone to video my experience and then play it back every time I'm about to complete an online entry form.

Oooff, every time I have bent over to pick stuff up today I can hardly get back up. I ache all over from yesterday's exertions.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Blimey, I could relate to that this evening. Was at a trail race in Chorley. 1st race in a fortnight, with my ankle heavily strapped. I've been a bit off for the last few days and coupled with the reduced fitness I really struggled. 1st mile was ok but then it felt like I was going backwards. 500m into a race when I'm blowing hard I often feel like faking an injury and dropping out. Never done it yet but came mighty close tonight!Gary the Enfield wrote:Ran 10k for the club tonight at St Albams. Nice flat course mostly under tree cover. On the upside it was a hard effort over 4 miles. It can only help the recovery in the long run.

Won the 'get wrapped in loo roll and then run' race at the twins playgroup sports day today. This is probably the highlight of my athletics career to date!

Did 11 miles over Rivington this afternoon. A lovely day and it should have been great but I struggled badly for pace and motivation. I was glad when it was over
