Back in bolton this week. After a few beers Saturday I appear to now be in a friendly golf competition this weekend at hart common. Now it has been made clear that the camaraderie is more important than the game, however I still would like not to be a laughing stock. Now, as someone whose golfing experience amounts to sneaking onto great lever at night and a few rounds on brackley jungle, how can one improve in five days to a level of not terrible?

Hmmmn, keeping an open mind. Hearing good things about it but can't help imagining Allo Allo on stage. We will see!

Noises off. Well my open mind has not only been closed to farce but firmly bolted shut. Not heard a bad word about it, recognised many of the cast as fine actors from previous productions, but hated every minute of it. It was a struggle to remain in my seat until my escape at the interval.

Thanks to Bruce for the ticket though, it's the thought that counts!

One of the cast was injured during the show you were at. Charlotte Cornwell cut herself quite badly on some smashed glass and needed stitches. Wasn't you chucking the glass, was it?

Yeah, it was just something that I couldn't get into at all, and nor could LE. As LE said, had I/we not seen pretty much all of the cast appearing in some serious drama (three of them were in WtW's Early One Morning) then it may have felt a little different. Alas no, it barely made it above the ranks of panto to me. I'd love to have seen Thacker's brilliant tenure end with one of the American classics that he does so, so well, but it wasn't to be. Hey ho.

Just got back from a weekend in London. This was our girls 18th and we took her and a friend to Mama Mia and then the Harry Potter thing up in Watford. On Saturday afternoon though, whilst they were doing the shopping thing, Mrs C and I fell in with the Austerity March from Covent Garden along The Strand through Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square where we left them. Went to this concert last night and was sat next to Mr Part towards the back of the stalls for the entire performance. It was surreal and excellent. I hope he enjoyed his first visit to Manchester. I just wish I'd have worn a nicer jacket than my denim one...!

Went to this concert last night and was sat next to Mr Part towards the back of the stalls for the entire performance. It was surreal and excellent. I hope he enjoyed his first visit to Manchester. I just wish I'd have worn a nicer jacket than my denim one...!

Wasn't it totally brilliant? My fave event so far in our Year of Live music.

Very emotional moment when the old man came on to take that ecstatic curtain call at the end.

Yeah it was incredible from start to finish. I've not been down to the Whitworth yet but will do, probably Thursday night this week.

Was such a bizarre moment when I approached my seat to find him sat in the seat next to mine with his assistant. I could tell he was enjoying it. At times he was cupping his ears as in the very, very quiet parts (we were almost at the very back). I'm very happy I went.

Tomorrow I make my annual pilgrimage to the Nantwich Cheese Festival. An agricultural show based around "the World's Largest Cheese Show". There will be two utterly huge marquees holding competition cheeses (the actual professional contests are today) around which produces show and sample and sell their wares.

Well, I say "sell". As the afternoon wears on they more or less force it into your hands.

My fridge in the garage takes on an overbearing amount of cheeses of all forms and sizes. Last year's main prize was 1/4 of a Parmesan wheel. It cost me £3 ... but only if I promised to take several Goranzola away as well.

The suffering was immense.
