that's the dog's culinary bollox!!
unfortunately i didn't remember the quarter-pounder lesson that I learned earlier this week - and discovered again that some things are not necessarily as nice if you repeat the experience 10mins later!

See if you can pick up a Caol Ila, Bob. If your finances can run to a 12 year-old then even better. It's an Islay that's full of flavour but is light on that dreadful burned peat taste that Laphroaig drinkers seem to find a plus point. If you want pure excellent balance then Ardbeg's probably the one. (Though Dalwhinnie is my call every single time, regardless of owt).
but I really like highland Park - not at all unusual or rare... But delish...
to make it special could splash on an 18 year old...

It's his 50th birthday. That kind of activity could get him arrested!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Thanks for the whisky suggestions chaps, I'll go with the Caol I think as it seems reasonable and is very highly rated amongst those who can drink the stuff. I wish I could enjoy Whisky and Brandy, but they do nothing for me at all

Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

I'd have to have black pudding, the lamb and then the choc fondant. Give me a shout if your old fella can't make it tomorrow.

Could well end up with the lamb missen yet, Hoss. Will have a gander at someone's. Can only really eat lamb when it's so slow cooked that it falls apart, and is as fat-free as is possible. Haven't even looked at the puds at this point.

Prawns then the pork for me, though it pretty much all sounds awesome.
Fecking good choice for a set menu that!

Soup, Salmon Fillet, Creme brulee or Cheese...
Had a pint there last summer after walking a circuitous route up to the tower... Nice beer, food looked good and would have eaten there but for the meal cooking at home...

What's the soup?
(I'll be having the prawns but I've got to know so I can roll my eyes when the waiter says leek and potato.

Think Brucie might need to take a second credit card, but it was a generous offer.

Sorry, I've changed my mind. Scrub the prawns. I'll have the cous cous.
Then the pie and pudding to follow.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
I knew I should have stuck to my guns - mine was one of those experiences whereby everyone else's meal looks considerably better than what you've chosen.
I had the black pudding (Excellent) and the salmon (OK but nowt spesh)
Pa also had the black pudding but then had the lamb (which was the real one to go for - pink and tender)
Ma Had the soup (Purple carrot and orange, LGM
) and the cheese pie. I have the cheese pie everytime I'm there by dint of it being the best I've ever had, but was determined to try something else. Why? I don't know).
No-one had room for pud (well, I had, but it'd have been a bit rude).

I had, in the fridge, mushrooms looking manky.
Aparagus with only a few hours left to compost.
And I had google...
This mushroom and asparagus soup is really nice... Garlicky, peppery, very tasty...

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Daughter 1 cooked an excellent father's day meal. Roast beef, creamed potatoes, broccoli, carrots, peas, roasties and Yorkshire pud. Couple of beers and I settled for a chocolate eclair for sweet. Very nice....
