Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Anyone else's local recycling centre not allowing people to walk into them with anything?
Due to the expected long queue of cars, I walked the 3/4 mile with five cardboard boxes, flatpacked, under my arm. Got to the entrance, only to be told that I wasn't allowed in due to Health & Safety. When I asked what these measures were, I was told that the capacity only allowed car users. When I then asked what environmental benefits this policy brought, was just told that it was the centre's policy. When I asked how he was going to get back in without a car, seeing as he was currently off the premises, he asked me to leave.
I laughed at him. Had I not, I might have broken the law.

Did it for several years. A waste of electricity, petrol and time. No one even rang. We were on an industrial estate and I spent most of my time keep checking nobody was trying to nick the only car in sight. Utterly pointless.East Lower wrote:....about having to come into work over Christmas and New Year when there is nothing to do, no-one here and no point anyone even bothering.

I've spent all day on the internet - trawling forums, updating my Lovefilm list and playing on Wikipedia.TANGODANCER wrote:Did it for several years. A waste of electricity, petrol and time. I've actually managed to get quite a bit done today. Perhaps that's because the people with the distractingly loud or irritating voices are all still on holiday.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Solicitors, or more in particularly the ones that are supposed to be carrying out my conveyancing. I come off of the golf course today and find that I have a message to ring them, which I do.
Imbecile: "Oh hi, Mr Rioja. Thanks for calling. We're still waiting for you to return the (thick wad of completed and signed papers) before we can proceed?
Me: Really? I posted everything to you on the 20th. Perhaps it's the seasonal post that's holding it up? What concerns me most though is that it includes a cheque for £400.
Imbecile: Oh, see, according to the file, we've received the cheque but not the documentation.
Me: My friend, it's absolutely impossible for you to have received the cheque without the documentation as I had personally stapled the cheque to one of the documents which was midway the bundle.
Imbecile: Well, I don't know what's happened here but I'll send you new copies so that you can fill them in again. It's perhaps better if we end up having them twice.
Me: Hang on, these are legal documents. I'm paying you a decent amount of money to make sure that everything on them stacks up, but what you're telling me is that these documents aren't even safe with you?
Imbecile: Well, I really don't know what's happened but I'll get new ones sent out to you.
Me: OK, and for me to have to fill these things out again I trust that I'm within my rights to bill you for my time at the same rate at which you're billing me, no?
Imbecile: I've no idea, but I'll ask my supervisor.
Me: Go on then.
After an eon of hold music I gave up.
Once the move is complete (which is now likely to be delayed) I'll let you know who I'm currently attempting to deal with in order that you can all avoid them!

Had a very similar experience six months back Bruce and you have my sympathies. They lost the HIP, "mislaid" part of the deeds and requested the wrong set of plans. Delayed us time and time again.
In the end we complained in writing and were offered 200 quid off the bill which we refused and then were given £300.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
The Northern Ireland water crisis.
It must be a real sod being waterless for several days. It'll affect much more than simply filling your kettle and my sympathies to those suffering ..... BUT ....
.... Yesterday's reports with people pissing & moaning & saying that the repairs were moving too slowly showed how unrealistic so many people are & how much the media can stir up an issue.
Again, not unreasonable really, deep down ... UNTIL ... it was explained that there had been decades of resistance to investing in the infrastructure, it remains publicly owned and the politicians have resisted either selling it off OR investing. One or the other boys.
Then a small side-bar remark explained that they pay no water rates there. Never have done.
I'm now donning my Shelock Holmes deerstalker and lighting up my curved pipe as I try to analise why the problems there are greater than one may have intially expected.
Mmmmmm, let me see .... why would that have happened I wonder ?

Cheers, fella. At least completion isn't scheduled until the end of Jan so there's a chance that it might not get delayed. I'll tell you what though, I'm bloody fuming about it.BWFC_Insane wrote:Had a very similar experience six months back Bruce and you have my sympathies. Can I ask you who you wrote to? Was it the solicitors or the ombudsman?

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
We made the mistake of being tempted by the low quote from one of the bigger firms rather than local solicitors. So we wrote to the solicitors threatening to refer case to the ombudsman and also threatening to report the matter across several popular internet forums. If its a larger firm they are apparently quite keen to avoid folk posting around the web about their failings for obvious reasons. I don't think the forum threat would have much sway though with smaller local firms.Bruce Rioja wrote:Cheers, fella. We pretty much ended up doing the bloody thing ourselves, identifying the right plans, getting them, hand delivering them to solicitors, correcting mistakes in their paperwork etc.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
You both have my sympathy. Many years ago I was obliged by my duties to attend settlements as a bank representative. Those rather onerous duties included checking all the documents to be exchanged for differences or variations. I might add that I was really not much more than a courier with a brief that all details must match. After the first time that I found discrepancies in a document I began to approach such transactions with some trepidation and an ever sharper eye than I had before (or at least it seems so in retrospect). No, none of my involvement ever resulted in some sort of legal brouhaha but some of it did result in saving someone not buying the wrong block of land or house/unit.
Naturally such anomalies resulted in delays for the prospective sellers/purchasers, a fact of which I was acutely aware. So: should a settlement be aborted because of a technicality it might be well to thank your lucky stars.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Bruce IF you are with a big firm then get the complaint into them. We noticed things improved markedly once we had. I have a friend who used to work for one of said firms and they advised that we made the complaint then contacted the manager of the team dealing with our case and asked for a full written statement showing exactly what had been done and more importantly what was outstanding, important to get this in writing as before we did this they kept giving us different information.Bruce Rioja wrote:Ah, in which case you were exactly where I currently am - almost word perfectly. Once we had this list we personally ensured every item was dealt with and then we could complete, 3 months behind schedule but still faster than waiting for the solicitors to do everything!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Some Tory representative on the telly this morning, can't remember her name (Green, Greening), summat to do with finance and with a smug face whenever she was asked a question about VAT rises, it effects etc all she should say is its labours fault with no real actual answers! FFS answer the bloody questions and they wonder why people are sick of politics and politicians.
My dog (proper 57) had his anal glands emptied once and yes the smell is something to behold!!
