I missed the park run last Saturday. I ran out of time getting Bruces chilli recipe into the slow cookerbloody lovely mind, and my last 2 training runs have been, ahem, wind assisted. XC at Hyndburn next Saturday pm, and sadly I'm nowhere near fit enough to do the park run as well. I'll be cheering Bruce & LE on in spirit though
Not me, but I know a man who has.

Best thing for bursitis (depending where it is) is ice and anti-inflammatories. Bursa(s) are pockets of fluid around the joints which help with lubrication (I think)
As far as the PF is concerned it needs rest. Lots of rest. In extreme cases (like a friend of mine) a steroid injection could be administered to help the inflammation calm down.
BP have you noticed any other symptoms that are linked to inflammations? It may not be the running that's causing it necessarily. Maybe worth having a chat with your doctor about why this is happening. Could be diet, lifestyle etc.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Reached my first 5K of road running tonight. Managed to keep the same time that I did it on a running machine last week. One more to do on Thursday then Parkrun, yeay.
By the way, when running in windy conditions, despite me having devised a figure of eight circuit, the wind's always blowing into my face.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Haha. Hardly. I'm four minutes slower over 5K than I was two years ago, but balls to it - I'm just happy to have got back up to 5K again. Fancy putting next years Manc 10K in your diary, Gaz? Selfishly, it'll certainly give me something to push towards.Gary the Enfield wrote:Speedy gonzalez!Bruce Rioja wrote:Reached my first 5K of road running tonight. Haha. Brilliant. I need to get that onto my phone. See, one minute I'm shuffling along to Shipbuilding and the next minute I'm trying to keep up with Staring at the Rude Boys.Little Green Man wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm four minutes slower over 5K than I was two years ago

Bang on with Bursas GtE. Defo the running causing it as far as i'm aware.Gary the Enfield wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Sorry to hear that BP. Surprised about the PF tbh, as I have no pain whatsoever in my feet/heel as most people seem to have. The pain that I have is at the top of my Achilles where it meets the calf. Maybe the lack of support on the arches is causing something further up?? Dunno tbh. I'll see what the podiatrist has to say. Gutted at missing the parkrun tbh. Good luck Bruce!
Re: The athletics/running thread
The right orthotics can work wonders in shifting that sort of pain, sometimes just shift the problem elsewhere though.
I asked my physio who he'd go to for orthotics, he said some guy in Antwerp. I feel a long weekend coming on! Orthotics and trappist beer, guaranteed to make you walk funny.

Cool. Can you get that on prescription? Mine are free!LeverEnd wrote:The right orthotics can work wonders in shifting that sort of pain, sometimes just shift the problem elsewhere though.

BP
Where you describe your pain sounds more like the Soleus muscle rather than PF. I thought PF was more heel and sole of the foot but I'm not an expert.
Was it aphysio who diagnosed it? You may benefit more from a deep tissue massage or acupuncture.

It's like a foreign language that. Does not compute.

Acupuncture? You might as well just randomly shove needles into yourself. Seriously. Studies show you might as well randomly shove needles into yourself!

It works for some people. Not a fan myself but my Mrs used it for pain relief during pregnancy and said the relief was instant. And after all, nearly a third of the Planet's population can't be wrong.

Re: The athletics/running thread
It does have effects but they're purely a placebo. As much relief is given by an 'untrained' (as opposed to?) person sticking needles into you than is given by a 'proper' acupuncturist. If you're going to use a placebo I'd be picking one that didn't involve jabbing myself with needles!

which placebo would you pick for pain in the Soleus muscle?Prufrock wrote:It does have effects but they're purely a placebo. Prayer
?
Not needles anyway. Something very ritualistic and involved, as they work better. Doesn't really matter as long as you commit. I'd be picking non-stabby options.
