No Bruce. With four completed they take up a fair bit of space and I'm plucking up courage to suggest another to the admiral, but not yet. Here are a couple of pics of the last one.

today it's my eldest son's 21st birthday - he who has less hair than he used to!!

anyway - just now he has got confirmation that he has a job - as a games programmer with a little games outfit called Stitch Games...

The haircut was clearly worth every penny even if he applied for a different job. Anyway he's got what he wants. My younger son wanted a similar job but didn't get it (even though he cut his hair). He ended up programming the graphics for aircraft simulators which is really one big video game. Congrats!

What I do do is I weld and shape and polish all the metal for the boats. Pull pit, Cletes right down to hinges and handles all hand made

We haven't long opened up another unit in the dockyard which is where I work 4 units in total and all in plymouth

I'm also a fully qualified carpenter but I just prefer welding

Will whack up a pic when I get back from work google princess yatchs plymouth. Where the biggest supplier of luxury yachts in Europe and only bested (worldwide) by some firm iirc in Florida

My old man owns a boat yard so I've been around boats all my life. I long to build a solid oak yacht but I just haven't the time atm

You certainly seem to have cornered the market in Princess yachts (lovely things though not quite my idea of a yacht - I'd assume sails for a yacht though that wouldn't be true of the old Britannia)). It appears Princess Yachts is a multinational company, part of the booze-based empire of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Big business and big purchase price. I guess you might get to meet the rich and famous at work, PW.

Yeah you're right, there more power cruisers really than yachts monty

You do here some funny stories though we had a Russian millionare (ambramovic ) who tried to buy 2 boats totalling just over 4 million!! he tried to pay cash and the best part is he didn't even bother to look inside. Crazy!!

Sounds fascinating PW. I worked sixteen years as a patternmaker so carving comes easier to me than most. I belong to a worldwide model ship forum and these guys are dynamite. They're mainly ex sailors and every rope, cleat, belaying pin etc, has to be in place (and the right place) or you get told about it.( mind you, they're so helpful, one guy sent me a 90 page rigging guide from Italy) Making models taught me an awful lot about sailing ships and the sea.

You do it for real.

The "Tall Ships" visit our eastern seaports every year. I have a feeling they are mostly built along C19th century lines - schooners and clippers - and they are a great sight at sea. We had a lot in the Great Lakes last years (celebrating our victory in the War of 1812 ).

Couple or three year ago I went on a big catamaran (powered) to spend two days on Catalina Island off California, and sailed past the old Queen Mary at Long Beach. A veritable ship paradise. I've been across the Irish Sea three or four times on the big fellas and on various craft of one sort and another from a hovercraft and right down to a mini sub and a rowing boat on Barrow Bridge lake, but not the tall ships. Been on board a replica Galleon in Bermuda though and that was good. Worked in Liverpool's docklands for quite a few years, so I've seen plenty ships of all types. The sailing ships have a magic all their own though. Is it H.M.S Warrior that goes to Plymouth?

ps: I've got Master and Commander and the full series of Hornblower DVD's, so I guess that makes me a fully qualified midshipman

Catarmarans are bloody fun to sail and bloody fast aswell

Not to sure if it's the warrior tango come to think of it I aimt seen her for about 3 or 4 years. We use t watch her sail in to plymouth from the hoe. When I see my old man I'll ask him

I've always found that sailing boats ( not all) seem to have a personality of there own
