Doing that NC500 route would cost about £1200 and a big weather gamble, 3 or 4 days getting peed through on a bike would be no fun at all so I reckon it's a miss

Re: General Chit Chat
you've got expensive big new shiny bikes and you're scared of a wee bit of drizzle???Hoboh wrote:Doing that NC500 route would cost about £1200 and a big weather gamble, 3 or 4 days getting peed through on a bike would be no fun at all so I reckon it's a miss

On roughly the same subject as above, I fancied an Autumn walk around the Lakes with the same company I have travelled with previously. They put you up in guest houses and you walk 10 miles a day between them. They transport your luggage between hotels. The walk I fancied started in Keswick and wended around Lorton Vale staying in two farmhouse type lodgings before a fourth night back in Keswick. They want £550 for this service. I only paid £115 for a night at the Hilton!

aye - I've looked at them kind of walking holidays - but always been put off by the eye-watering prices...
being able to walk longish distances and not have to go back for your luggage is a draw - but an expensive one!

Re: General Chit Chat
I've done the Cumbria Way twice with the same company and thought it reasonable value, but am planning on a retirement present to myself of the Coast to Coast next May and expect that to cost significantly over £2000. That'll be worth every pennythebish wrote:clapton is god wrote:On roughly the same subject as above, I fancied an Autumn walk around the Lakes with the same company I have travelled with previously. I'd suggest the overall condition of my bikes as opposed to yours might imply a little less water is no bad thingthebish wrote:Hoboh wrote:Scotland doesn't 'do' drizzle bish!thebish wrote:you've got expensive big new shiny bikes and you're scared of a wee bit of drizzle???Hoboh wrote:Doing that NC500 route would cost about £1200 and a big weather gamble, 3 or 4 days getting peed through on a bike would be no fun at all so I reckon it's a miss

Actually I never use water to clean them, damp cloth at best and wd40 on stubborn marks, then tons of Mr sheene.

About 50/50 actually, riding in the rain and snow is never fun, eventful maybe but just not fun.thebish wrote:aye - weekend, fair weather bikers worried about spotting their chrome... <shakes head sadly...>

Re: General Chit Chat
There really are some rats beginning to smell here.To quote yesterday's Telegraph on the 36,000 number:
The figure of 36,000 'clients’ included 19,000 children at dozens of schools in London and four in Bristol, with whom Kids Company workers came into contact in some way, along with 7,000 parents or family members, some of whom directly benefit from therapy and other support.
But the youngsters in its figures included the classmates of those children taking part in its activities. Kids Company justified their inclusion on the basis that the children benefited from the knock-on effects of the activities.

We went today, was a grand day out (apart from bastard drive home)malcd1 wrote:Let me know what you think. Health and safety isn't applicable there but it is fun all the same.General Mannerheim wrote:Crocky trail it is!
Full of riff-raff and scousers, and other people's children are horrible creatures aren't they? But give it its due its a heaven for kids. I'd have frickin loved it as a boy, the trail is a good length and loads of obstacles, swings, bridges back and forth over the brook, tunnels, mazes etc. then the slides and a few mechanical rides at the hub kept them well entertained! I like the grubby unpretentious rough n tumble of the place, industrial feel to the rides, disregard for H&S. Kids were properly done in by the time we left. Good recco!

There weren't many chavs or Scousers when I went. Good fun though if you can ignore the fact it looks like it has been cobbled together by a farmer and his farm hands.

Re: General Chit Chat
Every evening, round about 6-0'clock I get a call on my mobile. No name but the same 0800 number. Checked it out and it's Virgin Mobile. We already have their telephone and broadband and the wife has a mobile contract. I answered one night and told them I didn't want any offers, deals or changes of situation, happy with what we have etc......and still they ring. Tonight I was walking home from the bus with a haversack and shopping bag in hand, mobile rang, I answered, guess who? Normally I just let it ring and delete the call. Checked the number out on Google and it's amazing how many people are complaining about this. Real pain in the ass.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
