Had my IT band stripped this morning along with my quads. My god that hurts! I really must remember to get on the foam roller to avoid this bloody agony 4 times a year. Feels fantastic now though!

Re: The athletics/running thread
The Illio-tibial band is a ligament that runs down the outside of your thigh. If it gets tight (through exercise) it needs to be loosened. This can be done by lying on your side on a foam roller and literally rolling out the tension or you can get the same effect by lying on a tennis ball.Burnden Paddock wrote:I have no idea what this means.Gary the Enfield wrote:Had my IT band stripped this morning along with my quads. My physio prefers to push his fist into my thigh and run it down to my knee to 'strip out' the tension. It is extremely painful but extremely effective.
Please note that I am NOT a medical professional and do NOT advocate this for anyone else. I'm not offering advice or suggesting that this treatment is suitable for anyone but me. Nope. Don't do it. That is to say don't do it because I've done it. You could do it and it would be fine but take professional medical advice. Just in case. Okay?

Good to see the fellow forumites this morning. Even if wasn't reciprocal LE! Pleased to be faster than last time so something to build on. Taking the dog on the fells tomorrow which should be good if we can get him to run with us rather than chase bloody birds.
Respect to Bruce for even getting his drunken aris out of bed, never mind getting it up cruella twice

Still half-cut is definitely the new way to get it up Cruella, twice. No pain whatsoever!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Managed 5 miles on the fells with the dog this morning. Spent most of my time calling him back in which meant the run went pretty quickly and thankfully no ill effects. Hopefully that's a big chunk of my summer evenings sorted

Now then, I'm calling upon the experience of others here, and not their medical credentials, obviously.
However, I have a cold. Not drastic, just a stuffy nose, a bit of a cough and a sore throat, but I don't want to develop into Manflu.
I could really do with going for a run tonight. Will one have an adverse effect on the other?

I don't miss running for a head cold, only if it's on my chest. I just plod through it without doing anything too taxing.Bruce Rioja wrote:Now then, I'm calling upon the experience of others here, and not their medical credentials, obviously.

Cheers, Dude. I'll give it a blast and see how it goes. Might miss out the steady ascent though.LeverEnd wrote:I don't miss running for a head cold, only if it's on my chest. EDIT: Well, I suppose it's better to say that you're not going to do the big hill and doing it, rather than vice versa. Go me.

Well done. Although personally I'd have left it altogether. One day not running wouldn't hurt.
Hope your cold clears up soon.
