Wait and see how bad it is tomorrow. I'd get pretty used to the idea of not triple-jumping next week though. I've done the same thing twice. Both times it had swollen badly a couple of hours later and I could barely walk. First time I didn't do anything for 4 weeks, the second 5. Hopefully your own swelling/ability to walk will give you an idea if you're better or worse than the 4 week ball park.

And take ibuprofen. Fingers crossed it's only a twinge!

4 weeks?!  I don't know how serious it is because I've never really been injured before. It hurts to run and is very tender. It's not agony, I can walk ok though mild pain but something's definitely not right. Should I RICE it?

How long ago did you do it? About 4 hours after I'd done mine the leg in question looked twice the size of the other and while I could walk, stairs and any bending were agony.

If you're better than that you might be out for less time. Though I am younger than you :P.

Yes to rice, and take the ibuprofen for the swelling.

Hey, hey, hey! Less of your cheek young man! :whack:

About an hour and a half ago, don't think it's going to swell up, fingers crossed. Doesn't sound as serious as yours. Will double check on the ibuprofen as breastfeeding and it's quite limited as to what drugs you can take. I've just realised I was playing against some kids half my age, still at college, now I feel old! Clearly I can't hack the pace any longer!

I've never even had a proper injury before, is this what happens when you get old? I turned and accelerated after the ball and pulled a muscle in my quad. Bit gutted to be honest - I guess I will have to rest it - for how long? I was going to swim tomorrow but more importantly I really wanted to triple jump in a competition next week. How long do these things take to heal?
Unlucky. Always depends how badly it's pulled. I'd rest and ice it for a few days then try a jog once you can walk without feeling it. I usually take 3 months off for a 3 week injury but that's because I'm a lazy bastard!

And then you do too much in one day and get injured again ;) are you going to be able to make a come back this time or not?!

I don't think it's that badly pulled, I wouldn't want to run on it but I can walk relatively pain free (except when going up and down the stairs) Triple Jump is 2 weeks time not 1 so maybe I have a chance still.

I was following instructions on the last injury! Plus the stuff in one day was all different. And it's better now. Still doing rehab exercises and drills. I'm going to start running again but not race. Hope you're better soon.

You've no how idea how inept I am at all field events. One foot in front of the other is the extent of my coordination and that's a struggle!

Looks like I might have a minor strain. I'm sure I can probably fix it with a bag of frozen peas and a tea towel. However, are there any fellow amateurs on here that know of a trained athletics coach who I can ask about treatment / recovery time / that kind of thing ? Cheers.

I think, Bruce, that depends on your age. Are you old ??

... and the sort of pees. How do you pee ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

RICE and Ibuprofen. Every time, as I understand it and it can take weeks.

Ancient, Bobo, but I'm also taller than most and I don't know if height's a factor in anything, ever? :conf:

Today's important lesson. Going for a full English and then doing 5K is to do things in the wrong order. Where's the fecking Gaviscon?!
