i can see that - as a photo it aint nothing special - not technically hard - and not startlingly composed... it isn't a challenge or a revelation.. it wouldn't stand out in a crowd of photos...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I've got to be honest Bish, I don't like that photo one little bit. It does nothing for me in the way of thrills, and doesn't give me much of a technical tour de force either. I'm not being mean just... meh. (sorry).
i took it - cos those colours down that road are simply fantastic - and i wanted to see if i could capture that...
now - if you want a trilling tour de force - get off and paint the missus... your dog wasn't that much of a thrill!

Ok... now we're getting somewhere. I do like the colours. The colours alone are good. Me, personally would have zoomed in on the bottom left, excluding any road surface. That would be a photo I 'd be quite proud of...thebish wrote:i can see that - as a photo it aint nothing special - not technically hard - and not startlingly composed... it isn't a challenge or a revelation.. it wouldn't stand out in a crowd of photos...Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I've got to be honest Bish, I don't like that photo one little bit. And stop comparing my missus to my dog. It'll only end in tears. (for me).
That's not a leopard!

Re: the Photo thread
Anyone know anything about cameras? The shutter on my Nikon D60 has broken. It says 'Error. Press shutter release button again' when I attempt to take a photo.

Doh, do I mean D90? Is it you that has the D60? I'm getting confused. Either way it's knackered and I need help and you can't look at it now.thebish wrote:i thought you had a model more recent than the d60?

Re: the Photo thread
1) if it is still under warranty (which i doubt) take it back to the camera shop.
if it is not - as i suspect - then this will probably be an expensive job as they will charge you an arm and a leg to send it back to nikon - and you say you are broke. so - if you can't afford to have an expert do it - drastic action may be required - which is always a risk..
2) neither you or mike should attempt this... here is a picture blog (also - video version of same fix) of a way to cure this problem
NB - DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SPRAY GREASE DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA AS HE DOES. I REPEAT - DO NOT DO THAT EVEN IF HE SUGGESTS IT - SPRAY THE GREASE INTO AN EGG CUP AND APPLY IT VERY VERY SPARINGLY AND CAUTIOUSLY WITH THE TIP OF A COCKTAIL STICK.
find someone you know who has a steady hand - knows how a screwdriver works and has some common sense when it comes to mechanical things... (NB - that's not you or mike or the kids) give him/her immunity from blame for breaking your camera - then ask them to follow the guide to the letter - EXCEPT FOR THE BIT ABOUT SPRAYING GREASE DIRECTLY ONTO THE GEAR!!!!

Re: the Photo thread
^ Do you have another lens to try it with? It may be a lens fault rather than the camera. And does it give the same error at all f-stops?
If a camera fault does removing the battery and then replacing it remove the error?
Not a great deal of help but google returns some advice including this thread:

Thanks for advice both of you. No other lens Clapton. Bish, the picture instructions don't exactly look like rocket science, I'm sure I could do that. Am not totally incompetent.

If it anything like my missus, it should start working again, when you take your finger off it...
As in "Worthy, my phone camera's broke, I can see anything through it..."

you are more than welcome to box it up and send it to me (just the body - not the lens) - and I'll happily fix it and post it back...

Thanks, LGM - amazing. It seems quite well known. It is near Brandon, Norfolk and known as the Sewing House because of the Singer Sewing machine in it. Re: the Photo thread
Camera advice needed please. Have unsuccessfully tried (both me and a friend with camera knowledge) to get 2 of the screws out the base of my Nikon DSLR in order to fix the problem with the shutter. Think I dropped it one too many times and it must have warped them. oops: Anyway, I'm not entirely sure a camera shop would have more luck getting it open though I am going to take it in when I get a moment and see what they say.
So, my mind has been wandering to potential replacements and I have been looking at bridge cameras as a. Another DSLR is out of our price range at the moment probably and b. I'm not sure I'm a good enough photographer to make the most of one anyway. I don't really have need for a variety of lens and I'm not very adventurous with my camera settings. C. I'd like something a bit more then a point and shoot. I mostly take photos of family life and occasions and I want them to be a good quality record of the kids growing up. So a bridge camera seems like a good compromise. Can anyone recommend? At the moment I'm drawn to a Nikon L820 (rrp £200 but currently about £130 in Argos) what should I be looking for? Optical lens rather then digital for example?
If by some miracle I manage to get my current camera mended would it be worth getting a bridge as a cheaper, smaller one that I can carry out and about more easily in my handbag and be able to take to places such as the beach without being too precious about it?
