Heaton Park xc this afternoon. Snowing on the last lap and in areas the ground was still frozen so it was like skating on cobbles. Tricky! I'd had a tough PT session on Wednesday where I'd done way too much for my weedy office workers arms and they've become increasingly sore ever since to the extent I can't lift my arms properly. Have you tried running without swinging your arms? It's really hard! By the 3rd lap today I must have looked like an extra from Riverdance!

Ha Ha Ha sounds hilarious.
And excuse me Mr Rioja but what part of 'ran round Rivington' did you not get? My first MILE was a hill.

Won't be on the bike tomorrow but I will do a 10 mile run instead.

Sorry mate. Plans (largely) abandoned. Setting off now to recover my car from Ridgemount House.Bruce Rioja wrote:You just ran around the rezzy on the flat, you 4ucker!Gary the Enfield wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Heaton Park xc this afternoon. Every credit for getting out in this, Man. Ridgemount House, eh? Did you have to run there with one leg of your shorts rolled up?Gary the Enfield wrote:Sorry mate. Plans (largely) abandoned. Re: The athletics/running thread
On my way to Sherwood Pines with my parkrun tourist mate Leon. It will be his 131st different one and he's won over 70. We're then dropping him at a train station so he can get to Bromley to watch his beloved Tranmere Rovers.
He's wearing a parkrun cowl to identify him to other tourists. Geekboy.

No wonder he can run well, the Skip rat.

Re: The athletics/running thread
He won in 17:12, I got round in 21:50, not bad for my first for a while. Nice course, 1 lap on dirt paths through the forest from the Go Ape. Breakfast in Doncaster now after ditching Leon at the station.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:On my way to Sherwood Pines with my parkrun tourist mate Leon. Reckon I'd be about 25 minutes on that basis. Hilly?LeverEnd wrote:He won in 17:12, I got round in 21:50, not bad for my first for a while. Re: The athletics/running thread
No, not really. Faster than Bolton. I've not run for s while so was just feeling my way back in. That was my longest run of 2016!Gary the Enfield wrote:Reckon I'd be about 25 minutes on that basis. Re: The athletics/running thread
Was down in Wales. Wasn't sure which shoes to take as it's been pissing it down down there (10 miles from that village where it's been pissing it down since last June). Ended up running 6k in my Walsh knobbly fellas on nothing but clear tarmac paths. My feet are fecking killing me now!

Level with me. I have no idea when my next run will be. Back and pelvic pain means a visit to the osteopath tomorrow.Bruce Rioja wrote:First midweek run of 2016 under the belt.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Really need to get back into it three times a week now. Actually struggled a bit down at Taff's on Saturday morning on a dead straight, dead flat 6K out and back (wrong shoes or not). Hope you're fit soon, mate. You there on Saturday?Burnden Paddock wrote:Level with me. I have no idea when my next run will be. Re: The athletics/running thread
Certainly not running, but I think my BIL will be. Might show my face (for breakfast). Really pissing me off now that I can't get out there. Hoping to be told that my latest problem is something and nothing. Not that it feels like it.Bruce Rioja wrote:Really need to get back into it three times a week now. Re: The athletics/running thread
Treadmills v Road Running. Decent article here > http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35399598" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I chiefly agree with it's findings - running on treamills is as boring as shite, kids you on into thinking you're going faster than you are, and due to lack of veriation leads to repetitive strain injuries, which in my particular case manifest themselves as lower back pains (as correctly diagnosed by Gary the Enfield - despite him not being a fecking Doctor
)
What it doesn't address though is how much more energy it takes to propel yourself forward off of hard surfaces rather than by simply bringing one foot back in front of the other.
Also, when I've ran outside I feel superb at the end of it, whereas when I've ran in the gym it just feels like I've fulfilled some or other obligation to myself.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Absolutely. I read that this morning and scoffed that it had missed out that very point. Running a few miles outdoors takes physical effort. 'Running 'the same distance on a treadmill, despite being deadly dull , would take next to no effortBruce Rioja wrote:Treadmills v Road Running.
