There was a 5/6 Episode version on telly in the late 70's which was pretty goof, if memory serves. Alec Guinness played Smiley.Verbal wrote:lyWorthy4England wrote:Think that'll be on my watch list too. Le Carré was involved in converting the book into the script, so hopefully should be faithful.

Well, the Ehle's version is much longer (2x CD's) and sticks to the book better, but Kiera Knighley doesn't do a bad job. Like both.Gooner Girl wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:I'll get it in the neck for this GG, but I own both the Jennifer Ehle's version and the Kiera Knightley one. Like Jane Austen. Have to say that I'm mildly jealous, Chief, but my concern would be Brian Fallon - he needs the noise of an electric band to carry him through. I hope that I'm wrong - tell me I am.Prufrock wrote:Not tonight, but 15th October I'm going to the Shepherd's Bush Empire to watch Chuck Ragan's Revival Tour featuring, obviously, Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music fame), Brian Fallon (lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem), Dan Andriano (bassist and writer of the best songs from Alkaline Trio) and others doing acousticy stripped down stuff. People who know music understand how awesome this is going to be.

weren't those opening credits with the dragons in b&w on the top of a very tall building preposterous?? You'd like to think it was tongue-in-cheek - but I don't think it was!!

Show Me The Funny? Yes please. What absolute shite. You'll see considerably better at an open mic session at the Frog & Bucket. Considerably better.

Funny to see them struggling. Goes to show how difficult stand up is. And how spectacularly wrong it can go.
By the way, Rudi Lickwood telling jokes to schoolkids?
1. Isn't he a bit 'adult' for that kind of audience.
2. What's he doing in the competition? He's been around for donkeys years!

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I've found a "bulk" dvds items on ebay for $10 postage, Containing Both Series of "I'm Alan Partridge"
Just checked, Someone else wants it
(I upped my bid to $6; I am in the lead!) which means I'll be paying a bit too much
.
Here's the list of dvds and what I'll do with them...
Your bid is for the following DVDs (Region number is in brackets after name):
Pitch Black (2,4) lend to a friend, then try to sell
Quantum of Solace (4) watch one day
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (4) already have, either sell or give away
Alien Resurrection (4) Sell at a market
I'm Alan Partridge Series 1 (2,4) This is what I am after
I'm Alan Partridge Series 2 (2,4) I'll frame it
About a Boy (2,4) Keep, but hide as everyone hates Hugh Grant
X-Men 1.5 (4) maybe keep
X-Men 2 (4) maybe keep
I'm ripping myself off by at least $8
partner is not happy

No you won't - you'll simply be investing in timeless, priceless, classic comedy. Hope you win.2399 wrote:I've found a "bulk" dvds items on ebay for $10 postage, Containing Both Series of "I'm Alan Partridge"

Watched Panorama last night, another show about "booze Britain". Once again no mention of why people want to drink so much in the first place, only about how cheap it is to get hold of it.
How innefective as a program has Panorama become now since it went to just a 30 minute running time rather than an hour? They can barely get into a subject before it's time to wrap it up.
Also watched McIntyre's Toughest Towns or whatever it's called, about Naples. Reasonably good, but it follows this same frustrating formula that lots of current events shows now have where it spends a lot of time showing filler shots of the presenter walking through streets in slow motion, a lot of time saying "coming up next, I do this that and the other", four or five ad breaks, and a bit of time talking to some fairly unimportant people about the subject.
That's what I watched while the missus enjoyed Soap Night in the living room.

I watched 15min of 'The Mechanic' starring that buffoon Jason Statham. Switched it off cos it was dire, and watched 'Why Planes Crash' on Discovery, which was ace
Re: What are you watching tonight?
The Hour tonight...started slowly but is picking up. Hopefully it continues. Still finding it very hard to care for the characters though.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Yeah I watched that last night too. This probably deserves its own thread but I was amazed to see that the experts on the show were demanding that the price of booze be put up as a solution to the problem of us all drinking too much. This only a full seven days after the same channel aired a program called Fake Britain in which the presenter Dominic Littlecock or whatever he's called ran a feature explaining that we're currently facing an epidemic of potentially lethal fake manufactured alcohol flooding our shops and supermarkets at a fraction of the cost of the genuine article.P.O.S. wrote:Watched Panorama last night, another show about "booze Britain".
